a little help on guitar selection...

hi!

i'm a newbie at SOFT, and i'm wondering which elec guitar i should get. i've been playing the acoustic since 2005, and i want to move on to the electric guitar.

my budget for a good, quality guitar + amps + others is under $1000.

i've done quite a bit of research by reading the forums, checking guitars out in shops, etc. so far, the ibanez Jem Jr has caught my eye. is it advisable to buy that for a beginner? or if you think there are other guitars worth checking out, please advise! :) i'm also quite interested in les paul guitars. which brands are better and won't burn a hole in your pocket?

what kind of amps should i be looking out for? a lot of people on this website recommended the roland microcube...

btw, i've heard about the swee lee end of year sales, should i wait to see IF there is one? lol, i'm quite impatient, and i heard the sales are quite terrible because there will be people jumping queue, and there might not be any guitars that i will like.

thanks for reading this, btw! i know there are lots of other posts like this, and you've probably got sick of it. after checking out the posts, i still am unsure of what to get, that's why i'm posting. i'm really sorry arh!

theres a similar topic a few treads down...

jem jr has been discussed many times.... i think most ppl will ask u to buy the cube30 instead...

and yes... there are other better buys for ur kinda budget... sa120, rg321, ltds, and theres a washburn x50 at swee lee bb which i find it worth checking out.

lp im not too sure... but im sure most ppl here will tell u to go for brands like burny... neuro 182 has a nice edwards lp for sale... u might wanna check it out...

For amps, you can check out the new Cube X series at Swee Lee, i saw it yesterday, it is like hte upgraded versions of the normal cubes, if you looking for a decent amp, cube 20X or 30X should suffice depending on your budget, it contains killer bulit in effects and so on, for guitars, I dunno much, you looking for LPs? You can read about them in the forum, like epiphone, tokai and burny so on, as for swee lee sales, if you wan to make sure you get your stuffs, you have to be really in front of the queue, but then there are many occasions where people complaing cut queue all these, so it really depends on the situation and whether you wan to cut anot... :P

get the sa series or rg321 if u not lookin for a a guitar with a floating trem. if u are get an ibanez rg 3xx series loaded with the edge 3 bridge. the jem jr is more of a eye candy and u pay for its name. if u realli like the looks of the jem , u shuld isntead maybe get rg 350dx. another electric guitar brand u can consider is yamaha they got some good guitars out ther.

I understand you are new. So. Really.

DO NOT GET THE JEM JR.

There. Okay. You should be safe.

Of course, if you adore Vai but can't afford the Jem555 or the real deal, then by all means, but you better be prepared to change the crummy ILT1 bridge.

As a ex-jem jr owner here.

Just don't. Forget about it. Like the monkey grip? Get something else and cut 1 out. Or else get the real JEM model.

I heard from many accounts and myself got the same problem.
The body will CRACK easiliy for no reason. Changing the trem also cost quite some money so might as well get something else and cheaper.

Want a floyd rose guitar? Get the ibanez RGs. Just don't touch Jem-Jr.

Sa120 or Sa260 more worth it? My fren has a sa120 and i can play with it for hours on end, nice feeling

i'm one of the lucky JEM JR owners which color has been discontinued (looks nicer to me), and do not get cracks. the only crack i had was caused by some n00b who dropped it

and i changed the flody to a gotoh one, old unit, for a mere $100. what a great deal!

lol. seems like everyone's telling me Jem Jr is lousy. must change target!!well, i don't really know much about elec guitars.

sorry everyone. i'm damn slow at things, and i hope you people
won't mind me asking too many questions. as a girl in a girls' school, i don't have many friends to ask about electric guitars...

wah, damn, i feel so paiseh! can someone explain to me what's the difference between a guitar with and without a floating tremolo? keep reading it, and i still don't understand...

um, among the guitars mentioned to check out (RG321, RG350DX, SA120, SA260) which is the best and most versatile?

and regarding the amps, ok, i will check out the Cube X ones. thanks a lot!

well..my advice wud be..u shudnt get floyd rose equipped guitars..need a trem..get a normal trem..restringing is a bitch when done one floyd rose equipped guitar (when u juz started out playin electric guitar).

the SATpro on the sa120 is stable..it has a very nice feel..

well..if u dun like havin 2 humbuckers..u can go for 260 la..SSH..

run along now..try as many guitars as u can..

possible..seriously..its ALOT of hassle..and its totally not worth the time spent..if ur floyd is crap and gives alot of problems..

so rather den spending time utilising the floyd..u'll end up getting headaches and might have to part with cash to rectify the problem or get a new trem altogether.

so yea..if ur juz starting out and want a trem..get the normal trem la..it'll be safer i guess.

no...the entire line of SA use the SATpro bridge if im not wrong..

yea..u can ask the shop to restring for you..but u might have to pay..so why waste money..heh..

I tried restring my jem-jr with no basic knowledge at all.

Took me more than an hr. And I didnt know about trauss rod adjustment or anything at that time!

Btw Jolyn, what acoustic are you using?

hmm..dun restrict urself to juz ibanez la..try the others..and see how u like it..den juz let us noe la..den maebe if there's any problems with the guitar..we might be able to highlight it to u.
