My friend is working part time saving up to buy a gibson les paul std/custom.

We have aready gone to swee lee and guitar connection is there any other place to get a 1st hand gibsons les paul std/custom ?

Off topic rant :

We went to swee lee and ask about the price of the custom 1 guy told us it's 5k without looking at the price tag,so my friend is happily saving up the money than few weeks later we ask another guy who went in and look at the price tag said 8k and they have this ''you cannot afford it attitude'' that really piss me off.

I remember once Saw loser came and they got the ''Special treatment''.

Swee lee = 50% off worthy.[/b]

I've always hated music shops but I think you can try Guitar Gallery at Parklane for new Gibsons although I strongly feel they over price everything. Every once in awhile GC gets their hand on a rare find - you can try there if you don't mind getting used stuff.

Awhile back got quoted around the same price - 5k for a standard and 8k for a custom.. and of course w/ their snobby attitude, I decided they don't deserve a cent of my hard earned cash. Went to GC and got a 1985 LP Custom instead :D

let's not turn this into another shop slamming thread.

when buying an expensive guitar, i hope you have done enough homework/research to understand what you are getting.

$5,000 is almost 1 year's of salary for some people.

Most of the Gibsons that you will find in Singapore will have originated from Swee Lee in some way since they are the distributor here. Guitar Gallery obtain theirs from Swee Lee. I actually disagree with you on pricing - GG (assuming you bargain nicely) will give you a better price than SL in my experience.

You can get 1st hand Gibsons cheaper in Singapore that have not come via Swee Lee though your choice of models is much more limited, or you have to wait for orders to be imported. The little place opposite G77 (has loads of preowned guitars hanging) does this. Last time I looked they had a Les Paul Supreme for about $1000 less than can be purchased in SL.

according to that website epiphone elitist looks like a much better deal

Or u can try ebay theres this seller shipping new gibson items with high seller ratings and ships worldwide for US$139 shipping fee

http://search.ebay.com.sg/_W0QQfgtp...PageNameZMERCQ5fVIQ5fRSEEQ5fPr4Q5fPcNQ5fQ5fSI

Gibson sg special for just over S$1000 to S$1900 for sg standard
Les paul studio for $1300 - $1800

$5000 for a les paul standard is a total rip off
Youd be better off with a prs or esp

Otherwise get from the ezimusic if u want the les paul standard. Closer to world wide prices

I own a Gibson Les Paul myself, personally if you can help it try not to buy first hand. The price is insanely high. Look for 2nd hands that are in good quality you will save yourself money and play more Gibsons before buying any. T

he QC at Gibson can be dodgy there are alot of lemons floating ard so play a few to find a good piece.

I'd agree with ciel here. Although I don't own a Gibby yet, just an Epi LP, I still say go for a good quality second hand if possible. You'd still have a Gibby in your hands and it won't cost an arm and a leg.

But of course, don't be fooled by $500 Gibson LP on yahoo auctions.... if unsure abt second hand stuff I say come here and ask arnd. Loads of ppl to help.

We have gone to Guitar Gallery before and saw a Slash sig model 10k almost faint.

He wanted a les paul very very long ago and had consider buying other cheaper alternatives but after looking around he feel that nothing beats the gibson les paul .

He knows 5k is alot that is why we have not decided on one yet, wanna look around more and i came here to look for advices.

I will tell him to consider 2nd hand.

one more qns does 50% swee lee sale apply to the gibson les paul ?

Thanks for all the advices.

a used Gibson Les Paul is surely worth the consideration, especially if it's under a year old.

if funding is an issue, the Edwards selection is a very good alternative in terms of tone & playability.

i played this model recently- very appealing... (not even $1.5K)

yes, if u dun want 2 pay 4 a gibson, try an Edwards, Burny, Tokai or Greco. Equally good sounding, sometimes better, better stock PUs, better QC, cheaper, the list goes on. Unless of course u want the brand name on the headstock then i caan't argue with that.

hmm i have to say this although there are many Japanese Les Pauls owners here. Gibson QC IS dodgy theres no denying that but if you pick up a quality piece theres that mojo for me that the japanese ones seem to be lacking.

The japanese ones which i feel are really good are the high end Tokais 320s and 230s but those are in the range of Gibson prices but definately quality wise top notch. Honduran Mahogany and to vintage specs ooo gassy.

my take on the Tokai offering is that they can even out-do Gibson with their 75-series models. but no use talking about something not readily available here...

just stating it as an option, importing tokais from australia is possible just that you have to factor in shipping and most people on this forum aren't really willing to spend that kinda money on one guitar.
