9-42 to 10-46/52 - Will this cause my neck to warp?

The question is on the title!

I have an Epiphone LP and it came with a stock gauge of 9-42.

I just purchased a set of Dunlop Kerry King strings.

It comes with a 10-46 set, with an extra 52 for drop tunings.

I was wondering whether my neck would warp if i changed from my current 9-42 to 10-46.

Please help! Thanks!

Yes and No..

If your going to tune back to Standard on .10s and it really depends on the curve of the neck already...

just get ready an allen key ready when you change gauges.
Tune lower first. let the tension set for awhile then tune up while checking the neck curve and adjust accordingly.

But i dont think that it would dramatically warp since its a maho neck, and if your unsure, like i said, just tune it halfstep or spomething first. see if that warps at halfstep. if not then to standard. just keep checking for the neck curve.

a guitar neck that is set up for 9-42 will be likely to curve forward with the higher tension of a 10-46 set.

you'd have to adjust the truss rod to balance out the extra tension of the higher guage strings. if this is done properly, your guitar will be fine. the neck will not be damaged.

if you don't know how to do this yourself, i'd recommend sending your guitar to a guitar tech to do it.

its not really a case of whether the neck will warp or not. necks warp in time to come regardless whether it was straight or bowed to start with. however in terms of a bowed neck, it can be solved easily with a twist of the truss rod depending on whether you want to tighten or loosen the neck. it is necessary to do some truss rod adjustments if you are changeing string gauges but it is usually just a minor set up.

for floyde rose equipped guitars, you might have to adjust the springs as well.

Check your saddle height first dude, adjust them first, with a final adjustment of the truss rod to complete your setup. Not a very difficult things to do, give it a try, you will learn about your instrument more!

sorry to hijack.
i always changes gauge of 09 or 10.depends on my mood.
does it cause damaged to the neck?
what is neck warp?

It's definitely not RECOMMENDED to keep changing gauges.
neck warp = bent out of shape, caused by pressure.
Depending on the tension, it would bend inwards or outwards(refer to feNdeRbeN's post)

Without a truss rod, guitar's neck would gradually warp due to applied high tension.
And i wouldn't want to adjust it myself cause it could cause some serious damage if improperly handled =)

so the best would be to get it set up by a professional if you wanna change guages?
hahaha. i currently am using super slinkys' and they're .9s and i wanna change to beefy slinkys' which would be .12
guess its time to look for beez.
