8 string Ibanez RG for release? *UPDATE!*

From what I read on the Ibanez forum, they are premiering it at the NAMM on 18th January 2007 (19th in SG), and it's available to the masses.

according to a trusted Ibanez sources, there are some exclusive releases for 2007 in conjunction with the manufacturer's anniversary, some RG (6-strings) were mentioned, there's a 7 on the list & 'others'- have a feeling the 8 is in this category...

hmmm... how come tuning like this one?

Standard 7 strings down 1 step... so from B E A D G B E to the above.

As for the F#... dunno... lazy to think about it now... hahaha...

i want an 8 string too urgh.

Looking at the numbers on the model number, it's probably going to be out of most of our budget yeah?

the extended range of an 8 string can really be taken advantage of by two-hand tapping yeah?

shred, how much do you think the scale will extend by?

No idea..
but a good scale would be 26.5" ala Scheter or the 27" like the RG7421XL.

As for Tapping and what not... should be easier to have more tap range.

I am not too keen on the idea of a low F#, to get that sounding clear, you have to cut out too much bass - when you play a regular open D chord it will sound too thin. On a 7 string's Low B, its a struggle to balance already...

Wonder if Stan can wind some 8 string pups for me... hmmm....

yea why got F# as the low note? logical progression should be a E or D...
unless they couldnt find a string to maintain same tension so they just tuned it to F# :P

JEM 20TH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rg 20th!!!!!!!!!!!! seven string s!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8 string rg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my wad a year its goin to be in 2007

I thought about the tuning stuff and I figured I wasn't actually gonna play scales on the bottom two strings. Just a suggestion, it would be quite sensible to use the 8th low string independently as a bass string alone yeah? I don't think there would be much of a musical need to have the 5 semi-tones gap between each string for you to play familiar scale shapes with.

and considering there aren't actually more than ten 8 string songs we've heard of, any new 8-stringer would probably be stepping into experimental territory. There won't be any tabs or scale shapes to play. we'd all be figuring out the most comfortable 8 string tuning for our own music. for me I'd probably play DGDGCFAD if string gauge and scale length allows.

Everydying, I kinda feel the same way, the string tension/gauge combination probably couldn't go any lower without slanting the frets. xD

Lemme see..
From experience with a 7 string...

I enjoy the standard tuned 6 strings, but I like my 7th string to be a Low A. Yes, for cheesy numetal emo wannabe riffage, really practical IMO.

So for an 8... I'll go that way - a low 8th string - or I'll try a high A string - I hope 0.07s can be found....

Some news from the Ibanez forum I saw.

They are planning to release it at NAMM. It might be a hardtail.

accodrin to some of the guys at jemsite its an edge 3 fixed bridge, smth like the js2000 and mick thompson signature. got some pics from jemsite, this could be it

There's no Edge 3 fixed bridge - its the FX Edge bridge unit.

I would like an FX Edge unit, it makes PERFECT sense for the lower strings and you can thrash at it - more stable than a floyd rose.
