Finally after awhile, i decide to buy my fender strat.. hehe... So am just wondering if there is any shop that sells $700-$800 strat (Jap or mexican doesn't matter)

Don't know if it's a good budget to start with... cause i'm gona change out the pups for noiseless once i've saved enough... so yup...

Ok, thks... Juz wondering if the basswood and alder body will be any difference other then weight wise...

go to the buy sell section here on soft , some people are selling strats now , or yes go to guitar 77

Basswood has a more balanced EQ, as in the treble, midrange and bass frequencies are quite balanced. Alder is more treble heavy than basswood if i'm not wrong. If ur not particular abt the wood both are gd choices as they are versatile, due to the more neutral EQ.

basswood is like a cheaper alternative to mahogany. they give a warmer sound and more resonating (eg. Ibanez), while alder is those used in strats and gives a bright sound stratocasters are known for.

so look into your style of music and decide what type of guitar you want.

it's cheaper alright, but not an alternative.
Agreed. Each wood gives different tonal offerings; basswood has a different sound from mahogany, alder has a different sound from ash and so on. But i have nothing but respect for the basswood strats, excellent sound from those. Try the Jap ST-72, its my favourite strat to date, besides the MIM 60th Ann.

basswood is the industry's 'neutral' body wood (albeit being more pronounced in the lower frequencies), if you favour a certain pickup to propel your tone, this is the wood to acquire.

the ST-72 proves that there's much twang in basswood coupled with good single coils.

It's the ST-50... I went to ask about it that day.. still contemplating and looking for other deals... Thanks anyway...

You're right. I find basswood to be tonally dead. Most of the resultant tone depends a lot on the pickups. I recorded my basswood guitars and my MIA strats, and while you can say they're different, I'd say I personally found the Alder guitars to be more tonally flavourful.:-D

Still, it's a matter of what you want. All the more, I'm getting curious. I'm getting an EBMM Silhouette which is an Alder bodied-Maple fretboard guitar with DiMarzios... I wonder how different that'll sound from my basswood humbucker guitars...

And just to prove that I didn't use a cheap basswood guitar for my experiment, look at my siggy. There are only 2 basswood guitars there, and they're both NOT CHEAP!
