i'm juz wondering, how many of you guys here plays 7 string guitars. how long have u started playing them. and wat guitar you use/used?

let me get the ball rolling..
I started to play 7-string guitars in early 1998. my 1st 7-string was an Ibanez RG7621. then abt a 6month later i sold off my Rg7621 and bought a RG7420.
after a few months i sold off the RG7420 and bought an Ibanez Universe UV777BK. The Universe has been with till today.
Recently i bought an Ibanez S7320.
I still prefer my Universe then the S7.

ok that's abt it. Now let me hear from you guys!!!

not spoiling the fun or anything, but sum ppl buy 7 strings cuz they think 7 strings are better den 6 or watever. but they play like crap and only thing they do is chug on the B string so... ur sig kinda mite mislead beginners, or ppl who feel dat buying a 7 string will let them shred better or watever.

hahahaha...dude take it with a pinch of salt aye?

oh no, i own a 7 string and it does slay. just a friendly warning incase ppl impulse buy sum 7 string and den sell. nth against ur sig haha

i only started playing sevens this year after gettng mi two sevens, the uv and 7321, but was always fascinated by them since i started playing guitar. i love sevens for their looks(i think the ibanez headstock looks nicer with seven knobs. jus mi i guess), because of how low that monster b string can go, the chords u can come up with. the more options u have with the added string(like vai said once the more the better)and of course chugging on it. and chuggin isnt so bad la:) i guess that is what u want when u get so low of coz if done excessively can be a bit of a bore.

erm, i dunno, maybe play on the other 6 strings from time to time? but thats just what i do. Please dun get offended.

since we're talkin abt 7 stringers..

anyone got 7 string pups to recc??

i find the jb too hot and compressed..dun like it..

for smth versatile..cos i play a lil bit of blues..rock and metal..a lil bit of this and that.

really hard to have 1 pup dat can cover so many type of sounds. maybe u shud get a hotter bridge pup like evo7 for ur metal needs, den sumthing like air norton for neck and for singlecoils not much option. SD can custom make 7 string versions for their pups and bareknuckle oso. Theres the dimarzio blaze singlecoil but then ive read some bad reviews bout it so yea. Gdluck for ur search.

You want versatility - consider lower output pups.

Let the pedals supply all the gain and compression.

Anyway, as much as I enjoy the whole 7 string... I can't get how the low B balances with the rest of the standard 6 strings. I had a nice RG7621 but the string balance was never there. It was frustrating. And it wasn't an issue with the pickups because acoustically, the imbalance is there. So in the end, I just gave up. I think the answer to the problem would have been a longer neck scale.

You're buying these pickups based on reviews, & its what, $500+? thats the thing that some people do nowadays?

it's the kinda sound dat i want and i've done all my research. heard lotsa sample from people who uses them too. dat's the good thing abt internet nowadays. yes i agree it's abit costly but the people who have this pickup never regret abt it. According to the people at ss.org, no other pickup comes close to the lundgren M7. well to me based on all the information i've got, i guess i'll have nothing to lose but juz a burning hole in my pocket...
