question on recording in karaoke pub

First of all, I love karaoke in Chinese KTV pubs. You get to hear strangers sing, sometimes very well, and bring friends to a bar even if they don't sing. Plus, you don't need a big group to go and have a good time.

So I had a friend record me sing a couple of songs at a local pub. My friend is great with the camera, but the sound is, well, let's just say there's a lot of ambiance. Next time, we're thinking of bringing a shotgun mic and pointing it straight at the speaker.

Any tips for good sound recording at a pub? I've never checked: are they set up to let you record off the board?

Here's my two songs:

Good singing there!

The least effort would be to have the camera closer to the speakers. This way, it will pick up the audio signal better.

I am sure there is a way to tap the signal off their system. Do you have a portable recorder? Like a Zoom H4n? Can try to have a feed off their AV Receiver and then sync it back to your video in post.
