Drumming with No Direction

Picked up drumming a few months back; bought second-hand drums and started basically just drumming along to random songs. With no guidance from anyone and little rhythm knowledge, I wouldn't even know if I'm playing it right. So after awhile it gets really pointless.

Maybe I need a real direction here? Take some grading or something?

Humbly sought advice from more experienced folks here..

I find that 2 things motivate me to learn more - watching good drummers and aspiring to play like them, and seeing myself make progress in drumming.

For good drummers, here are the two I find myself watching the most: Senri Kawaguchi and Tommy Igoe

Meanwhile for structured lessons, you may choose to take graded lessons, but it's possible to learn yourself as well. The internet has a lot of resources, for example, freedrumlessons.com The rudiments are split into 40 lessons, so maybe if you master one you might be motivated to learn the rest.

Good luck :)
