MET UP with Kevin Mathews yesterday and we had an interesting discussion about local music. But what really got our goats was this doozy of a query:

Can anyone name – and hum - five local English pop songs from 1960 to 2010?

Or even better: Can anyone name five local English pop songs from the 1990s and state who they’re from?

Something to think about. Buzz me here if you can!

Darn...

Roses - Gingerbread ( Think it was the 80s though as with the other bands in the Class Act compilation )

Angel In The Night - Lovehunters

Orchard Road - Watchmen ( Obviously )

Merry Christmas Singapore - Culture Vulture ( I must add they had a pretty good album : Lover In Motion )

Maybe Friend - Dick Lee ( From the Asia Major album )

Oh& Energy had an album as well, darn I lost the cassette.

I still hum to Matthew& The Mandarins' Singapore Cowboy.

..let's not forget brutha FGL's Love You Aida from the NSRII compilation as well. That song could've been a pop hit actually.

padres - november 91
concave scream - driven
kick! - jane
lizard's convention - wooden heart
naked - don't cry

locals dont speak english lah, therefore local english music cmi. anyway local english music need to challenge things like american, british and australian english music, which is why it gets whooped.

yea Don't Cry was one helluva ballad, good production as well.
Mark Chan had a couple of albums as well, pretty cool stuff. Tanya Chua's Bored was good as well.
