I just love the picking tone :D

Max green from escape the fate uses pick and he holds in the pick in a very weird ( or rather unique ) way.

Krist Noveselic - Nirvana
Nate Mendal - Foo Fighters
Jason Newstead - ex Metallica
Chris Joannou - Silverchair

tetsu from l'arc~en~ciel for me was a paradigm shift in my perception of the role of a bass player

i prefer the sound of picks, cause it kinda gives more twang to the sound, while finger gives a much duller sound, but then again , maybe my technique is wrong =X

Don't know if this meets your understanding of using a pick but it is interessting to see how you can groove and funk with a plectron:

German bassist Wolfgang Schmid (with his band KICK feat. Billy Cobham)

Personally I would use a different sound and visit a hair dresser...

Cheers

Its playing different for tones. To beautify the gene of music. Another technique to power up ur Bass skills arsenal.
