Zoom Q3 HD!!!

Hey guys! Just got the zoom q3hd from citymusic!
Decided to test out with my drums at home.

Will be doing more covers on the drums after my tests.

The video.... hmm... i feel that it didnt really capture the lower frequencies!
But hey, its worth the price man

compared to the many many lousy quality videos of guitarers playing covers and more covers via "dont know what phuck handpone cam or lousy cam which is not doing justice to the sound and make them sound extremly bad or dated as if living in the 80s", the image/audio quality from the q3hd is way way much better!

Time to pay citymusic a visit soon!

the audio recording capabilities of the zoom q3 hd is indeed very good, with very little compression, this kinda audio track is very easy to master to make it sound fuller.

since we're on this topic, i've did quite a lot of research prior to the release of the zoom q3 hd on cheap alternatives to full sized video cams with good audio recording quality, and i found the compact cam panasonic tz10 to fit the bill (it's around $600 new), here're some examples of footage i recorded. one of the better features is true optical zooming while recording footage, quite close to those expensive $2000 video cam at a fraction of the price. it records in stereo too, but the sound stage is not as wide as the q3's.

all the audio tracks on these videos have been remastered, one downfall to such balanced sounds is that the compression in the raw audio clip is medium-high, but i guess it's a trade off to prevent hard clips from happening.

try mount it on a tripod, with the mics in level where your toms are but below your crash cymbals, infront of your kickdrum by about... 1 metre. even if that camera angle (miking position) may not be ideal, like make you look fat or may even seem to be aiming at your crotch (remember don't wear lose leg opening shorts next time, no colour tv pls) , but if i'm not wrong that should capture an overall nice balance of your drums + your kickdrum.

Oh yeah...I was waiting for that but I was impatient. Got the Q3 instead as it hasn't come 2 weeks ago.

i think both the audio recording qualities are the same, but the problem with non-HD is that youtube screws up the sound. you try hearing retardedrummer's video in 720p and 480p, there's a lot of high frequencies cut off in the lower quality vid.

one way to force youtube to make a HD option is to upscale your video even if it's not HD to a height of 720px. can try some free simple programs like super converter (for windows), or even windows movie maker (with custom export profile)
