I guess this topic is more abt the approach to soloing?

My style is more of singing out the melody which i want, then translate tt onto the fretboard. Most of the time it happens to be a combination of blues/pentatonic/minor and phrygian.

I love to use bends to kickstart on a soulful note, use minor/phrygian mainly for scale runs to build tension and pepper vibratos all over to up the feel factor.

I only know how to play pentatonics and blues haha.. but if you say playing style I would say I'm going for the acoustic guitar guy thing, pple like Dave Matthews, John Mayer, etc...

Pier.

i like rockin' on the blues scale, with a hint of pentatonic

problem is, i dunno how to use them to make solos like you guys...

Learn alot of licks, after that try and combine into a solo. or dlaod backing tracks off the internet, and practice soloing with them. or learn lots of solos from songs, so as to give u an idea

hmm not a very scale person here, still learning! I'm more of a acoustic person, like John Mayer. Rythm stuffs. And a lil blues. Well, most of the time, jus anyhow whack and come up with weird stuffs. :)

I use too much pentatonics... its really boring but ah, trying to get out of the rut of pentatonics. Been trying modal stuff and playing with well, wrong notes. :) Dissonance is a thing of beauty.

i try to get a melody first. use pentatonics when i run out of ideas or when i gotta improvise, or when i feel the song is "breaking up".

well, i did an improvisation for the song rock and roll queen by the subways. i did this solo:

e |-----------------------------------------------------------------
B |------------------------------------------------------------------
G |---------------------8-10b--------------------------------------
D |---------------8-10---------10-8--------------------------------
A |---------8-10---------------------10-8--------------------------
E |--8-11----------------------------------11-8~-------------------

i used only half of the blues minor scale throughout the whole song and nothing else. is this okay for a first start? i dont really have good ears and perfect pitch.

The Double Harmonic Minor, the diminished, 5th mode Harmonic Minor, Phrygian, The Byzantine, The Snake Charmer, Hirojoshi, Kumoi, Hungarian Minor all see lots of action.

Byzantine?! Whoa .... how about Egypt or Babylonian?

Ok i am more down to earth .... mostly Blues, MixoLydian, Lydian and Major scale. When approching doninant chords, i tend to deviated away to the tensions and altered notes ... which i guess might give melodic minor sounds.

Oh the sound of Lydian ... like flying in outer space ....
