Your band tales...

Heya guys, got bored so I thought why dun we do some storytelling regarding our bands, good or bad? I`ll start...

Towards the end of 2004, I put an ad looking for a band. A week later, got a call from a vox/leader saying that he wanted me to join him. Then I thought of my sec sch fren and asked him to join me. He was ok and I hooked up with the guy. We went for jams and all. I was the lead guitarist while my pal was the rhythm guitarist.

4 jams later, I heard rumours from my pal, that for the gig, I will not be used as the lead guitarist but my vox gonna bring in somebody else. I was furious. I called up the vox and asked why he did tat w/o informing me. He said tat my lead guitaring wasnt tat superb or sumthing but he still maintains tat I`ll be back in the band after the gig. I was so mad... I mean I brought my pal to play in this band and in the end, I wont be playing in the gig but my pal will?

Something wasnt right...I mean the vox should give me the chance to play in the gig but he definitely wasnt...so as the weeks past by, my pal rang me up and said the band couldnt take part in the gig cos of no more slots. I also heard that my vox met with an accident...well dunno if its fate or not..

Ah well...I nvr heard again from that guy....today, I`m in a newly formed band hopefully slowly sowing the seeds of success in the local music scene...

Ok guys, let me hear ur 1001 arabian nights..hehehe..just kidding...I`m sure some ppl here would have experienced what I`ve gone thru... :)

man, your vox is just plain mean....if he doesn't want u in the band, he should at least have the balls to tell it 2 your face

Well being in an allgirl band, we had a catfight once, until all of us got scratches on our faces from all that nail-fighting. We then decided to use that as a 'prop' for our next gig.

Just kidding.

May '05, my band was on tour in Malaysia. We were on the KL highway, driving this rented beat up mini van with all our merch and gear.

It was around 2am when the dark roads were illuminated with bright blue lights. We got pulled over by the cops and were woken up to have our passports checked. I thought we'd be issued a ticket for speeding but the cop said nothing and returned to his land rover. I was also afraid that the cops would make things difficult if he finds out we're a band.

Being law abidding Singaporeans, we got a Malay speaking friend to go over to the police vehicle and ask for permission to leave. All the cops asked was "What does that plate mean?", pointing to an extra car number plate we taped to the van's rear windscreen.

Friend: "Oh, these guys are a band from Singapore touring Malaysia"
Macho Cop with moustache : "Oh ok."
Friend: "So we can leave now?"
Macho Cop with moustache : "Yes. Rock on."

Below's a pic of our grunge van with the green "band's car plate" (to mark our vehicle) the cops were curious about. The grumpy member is of cos, the driver.

Well, not all Malaysian cops are bad lah... There are cops who rock too!

faizal, i think ur vox didn't had the heart to tell you lah. maybe he was afraid you would break down or something. Then again being in a band isn't all about, "hey my friend gets in, why can't i"..it all ultimately depends on the overall satisfaction of the band with regards to your skill.

but hey! look on the bright side, he kena accident.
