your approach towards gear

Its just a hobby to me. Like women who pay top dollar for a small slice of crocodile/snake skin, I pay what i can afford for my guitars.

I am not the best guitarist out there, i may be worse than a hack. But the bottomline is, guitars interest me, and I feel happy not just playing them but looking at them too.

At times, the whole collecting hobby thing gives me a goal in life to pursue - one which is actually fun, non stressful.

Basically, it makes me happy to have more guitars. So I don't see a problem with having more guitars, as long as i don't go hungry and buy irresponsibly.

I don't really baby my #1, I just played it... if I need to hit it, I'll hit it hard and not be bothered about damaging it (not in a major way lah) because the guitar is but a tool and tools are used.

That's my take on it.

amen to that bro. haha but i have more than one =]

lol i have two guitars.

the only reason i use my spare guitar is cos i wanna play for like 5 mins only and im lazy to wipe my strings and stuff if i take my #1 out

i guess when you have a new guitar you'll really take care of it but as time passes you wont pay as much attention to small details alr

Hmm.

My own personal approach is my current way of going about with my axes:

1. Strat-styled, humbucker in bridge, single coil in neck. This is my main axe.
2. SG, X2 Humbuckers. This used to be my main axe, but now use it for recording or substituting my main axe on "heavy" songs.
3. Telecaster S-S pickups config. This is my "backup" guitar because it can handle anything and everything that I demand of it. It's also pretty to boot.

All three guitars have their own unique voicings, which translates to 9 different sounds. Multiply that with the number of modulation/dirt pedals i have on my board (7).. I have 63 different sounds. That's not even counting the stacking of different effects together.

My main objective is pretty much diversity of sound... and with these 3 axes (and my efx) I can pretty much get the sounds I need to get my creative juices flowing.

I will generally prefer to have 2 guitars, exactly alike setups and stuff, but one with FR, one fixed bridge. But then again, i hate whammy bars and so maybe one is enough hahahahaha!

Thank God I'm a lefty...otherwise I'd end up with many more guitars when GAS strikes. As much as I'd want to adopt a one-guitar mentality (where you'd get your signature sound/tone in all your albums in all your songs ), it's pretty hard to achieve that in modern times like these where people can afford several guitars and choices are aplenty compared to people back then when guitars are expensive and they devote themselves to playing a particular genre, like jazz, blues, and the choices are obvious, etc).

Personally, having more than 1 guitar is kinda like having backups if your main axe runs into some problem or in need of repairs, etc. It's also some kind of road to discovery. I'm sure along the way, you'd wanna try something new/get into new genre, etc and even though it's possible to do alot of mods/overhauls to your sole guitar, it's more 'practical' to have another guitar that you can mess around with (changing of pickups, tremelos, neck, hardware, wiring, etc) without irreversible results.

For me, I appreciate guitars for their own characteristics and even though I still sound like me when playing the other guitars, there's still something 'different' about each of them that I like :) And like what others said above, it puts a silly smile on my face to see my wall of guitars everyday...heh.

To sum it up, more guitars for me cos:
1) Backups!
2) More variety of sounds/tones/feel
3) Looks nice on my wall
4) Lefty means I can't sell easily, so I keep every guitar I've bought :/
5) Self-indulgence lah. Tha'ts the closest thing to being a rawkstar by having more guitars

Err...I have 6 electrics and 4 acoustics (tho 3 of the acoustics are virtually unplayable)

...and I'm gassing for one more electric this year! (jia lat siah...)

I have... a few... guitars.

I do play all of them some time or another. Just that some get played more than others. Most notably, my Blackie strat, My 20th Anniversary Silo, and the JP6. The rest are once in a while when I feel guilty, I'll take them out. But the Edwards LP almost never gets touched... I'm just not an LP kinda guy. But I want to have one. So, rather than spend money on a Gibson, I think Edwards is good enough for me...

But that doesn't mean I'm stopping there. I like guitars. I like looking at them, playing them, and letting them grow old with me. Which means I almost don't maintain them other than strings, and the occasional wipe for the neck. But I'll end up with many more... mark my words... heheheh...

yess there is a passion in it ,when i have my jackson KE i said that enough
but.. when i tried the Brian more guitar oughhh she's damn nice hahaha..
and still guilty now..i dont have enough money to bring her home..
all of them have a diffrent attitude and personality..ahhh..
