Now it’s my turn to ask which guitar as GAS strikes again.

Looking at following axes.

1. LTD EC 2005 (S$ 1350 at Davis and I think this is over price)
2. Ibanez RG6EX (Not available in Singapore)
3. Epiphone Ltd Ed Midnight LP Custom (Recently saw it in gear news thread)
4. JEM 555 VWH (Over price too but could be lower at sales, I don’t abuse trem that much, so Edge II should be just fine)
5. Hunt down second hand JEM 7 and 77

I would like to hear you guys’ thoughts on them but unfortunately I can’t afford to buy two.
P.S: Ibanez MIJ Prestige is not an alternative.

i will choose 5, and defintly not 4. ithe jem55 is not tat bad but its juz tat for the price u could get a way better guitar. a jem55 cost 1.8k right? correct me if im not wrong.

hah...could choices of guiitars...but i pref choose neither of them...i'd rather get an Ibanez GXR370...I think its a great axe if u wanna ask me..i own 1!!..hahah...if not..i'd go with 5...

meh
its kinda pointless asking these kinda questions, lots of ppl have different preferences, hence they'll choose what ever guitar they like, not what you like.

But, it would help if you state clearly the tone you're after, the pickups, body wood..etc

So do you think whenever people ask "which guitar" it's a pointless question? Then what's the point of coming to the forum?
I like all these guitars, so they can suggest based on their experience and knowledge. If you don't want to make any comment, that's fine.

I play wide range of styles, so it can be any pickup or body or neck profiles or brand. Thats why i didn't mention. It's open for discussion.

Turn off the heat dude. You really have to understand that recently, there has been a LOT of such threads. And i seriously mean a lot yea. People do get irritated and bored after seeing "recommendations etc etc" coming up every other day.

If you say, changed the topic to "anyone with experience with these guitars?", i'm sure response will be better.

This kind of “which guitar, which amp, which effect” questions will keep on going as there is always new products coming out.

Yes, you have a point and it's true. But it does help to look around and make an effort to do a lot more self research, as well as read up on the past threads. Doesn't necessarily have to be the same item, cos they all provide a general idea of what this and that sounds like. Lots of people have already stated how and what one should do when looking for a particular guitar in many other threads. You shouldn't be asking people to select or recommend a particular piece of gear cos ultimately it is you who's gonna be making the final choice. Take the Jem Jr thread for example. When neuro asked about it there were lots of negative comments about it but he still went ahead and bought one. Nothing against the man though. So just haul ass and try the damn piece of equipment, tell us your findings if possible, and Softies here would be more than willing to provide more adequate information about the instruments if they happen to know about it. Think about it. Not everything in this world should be taken for granted.

jtsang2501: Yes it's a natural event. But if you notice, over the past pages of the gear guitar forum, there are countless no. of people asking for recommendations and what they should by. Thing, newcomers don't give a damn about reading these past threads to see if they'd help or not. I hope you don't feel that i'm personally taking you down or anything. It's just my thoughts.

i think its noticeable how some softies who frequent the guitar forums do have their msn addresses available to all who look. just read up on the older threads, and if there is clarification needed, i suppose u could always pick someone to ask, but ask nicely. moreover, older threads can always be revived, if they touch on the same things that u have questions about.

abt the looking for a newer guitar thing, i suppose it'll help a great deal for people to actually post what they are looking for, or the model that they are interested in. these things have already been mentioned countless times in all the various "need new guitar" threads, imho.

Dude i think you should just go out there and try those guitars for yourself. Don't be so lazy la. We can give you tons of opinions but at the end of the day, it's up to you to decide what you really want. Your question is just like asking, 'which girl should i pick to be my wife?' Only you yourself will know your own tastes and preferences. I am sure you know where I am coming from. My advice to you : Go out there and do some shopping. Test those guitars which you have in mind and decide which one you like the most. Simple as that, don't you think?

if those guitar are so easily accesible i'm sure he would have already tested them out? They're not ur average under $500 guitar thats practically available in any guitar shop. Certaintly, doing research based on the product's website and the internet reviews isnt good enough, especially if you're gonna buy somthing so expensive. It is always safer to get some more oppinions about it, so as to narrow the search.

So if you have any experiences with those guitars please help, if not well...

it doesnt hurt to give him your oppinion about the listed guitars, even if your oppinions differs or that you play a very different style .

doing research based on the product's website and the internet reviews isnt good enough

This is largely dependant on your personal research skills. Take all 5 options above for example. In an example of a scenario, say no softie has tried it. What are you going to do? How are you going to figure out what guitar feels like what, sounds like what?

Then comes, the list of things you could do. Email the manufacturer for more detailed specifications of the instrument. Things like neck width, nut width, thickness, body etc etc. These specs aren't there for show. They're there to help you understand and make comparisons to say, other instruments of similar specifications that are available here. Is it a NEED or a WANT? How do you expect a proper answer when you ask vague question like, your thoughts on them. Why not list what you have researched so that people can view and possibly provide better options instead?

Again, i don't mean offence to those who have posted their opinions. But tell me honestly, no lies no shit, do you actually think you can benefit from answers like that?

Ya know, you'd be surprised how actions like these can influence and affect the quality of responses, and at the same time, be a stepping stone to more knowledge for those new to the music world (applies to only those who are willing to make an effort to read).

Well, I did make numerous suggestions and recommendations whenever people asked for new guitar or amp or effects. I did share my knowledge extensively on the products that I know.

I did read old treads too but apparently guitars that I mentions are relatively new, therefore previous treads do not actually reflect/answer my situation.
Furthermore, I was not able to find the reviews about 3 out of 5 guitars I have listed.

So I have a glimpse of hope that anybody here might actually tested them out, if not, at least some knowledge about them and posted a question and this is what I got.

Anyway, this thread is about choosing a guitar and it’s not about should or should not answer a question. So I think we should close this tread since we are not going anywhere.

Constructive reply:
"The Yamaha Pacifica 112J is a good starter guitar with a versatile HSS pickup configuration. It has an alder body and does strat like tones fairly well. Don't expect les paul sounds from it. Yamaha guitars have good QC and it's unlikely you'll have any major problems if you buy one. They are on of the best value for money guitar on the market in my opinion."

Non-constructive reply:
"Dude get the Ibanez RG420! It ROXXXX!!"

This is what soft is like if it's a home buying forum:

"Guys I'm buying a house, should I stay in Tampines or Jurong?"

Guy from Tampines: "Dude TAMPINES ROXXXX!"

Guy from Jurong: "JURONG is the best place i've ever stayed!!!11" (without mentioning where else he stay before and what he mean by 'best').

agreed..but you must not deny the fact that people tend to praise things that they own..anyway guys..cool down..its a forum afterall.. :D

I would go for a 2nd hand JEM. A 7DBK or 7VWH or even a Universe.

For the JEM line, I feel that getting the top of the line is the way to go... the JEM555 quite pricey, the JEM 333/Jr is pathetic.

I agree with mamemo and pooo... Totally, man.

You're asking the wrong way. 5 guitars were listed. Let's classify them:

Guitars deemed as overpriced:
1. LTD EC 2005 (S$ 1350 at Davis and I think this is over price)
4. JEM 555 VWH (Over price too but could be lower at sales, I don’t abuse trem that much, so Edge II should be just fine)

Then the next classification, the unavailability:
2. Ibanez RG6EX (Not available in Singapore)

That leaves you with 2 choices, the Epiphone Ltd Ed Midnight LP Custom and the second hand JEM 7 and 77.

Not sure what you really want, we don't even know your budget. Is your buying decision swayed by opinions? You should find out what's best for ya, dude. Be independent.

I would say hunt down, the 2nd hand JEMS wld be the best. Better hardware, neck, wood than a similar 555.

Btw, I wld like to ask why not MIJ Prestige?
