sorry ppl.. just wanna ask if anyone owns this set? and how much does this cos? yeah and if its good to use? will it last ? thnks =)

Are you asking about the 18" or the 16" bass drum set? I like the 18" set better, though I've used the 16" for a jazz gig and it works really well. Personally, I like the sound and the size (I'm not tall and my limbs are short). If I had extra cash, (can't remember how much) I'd get the 18" set, for its portabilty and relative good sound. The depth of the bass drum and smaller diameter, makes for deep, yet focused punch. But of course not as deep as a 22" bass drum la. The rest of the set is alright, just a matter of tuning them right.

Being a Yamaha, the hardware is quite good. And you can always get the parts locally. It's not like my Gretsch 16" bass drum. I don't play it much now, cuz I'm afraid to wreck the custom-made wood hoop, cuz I can't get that here in Singapore.

I personally love Yamaha Hardware..

Be it the stands, cymbal stands, tom holders,etc.. they are top-notched quality.

The tom-holder is heaven sent for angle adjustments.

BUT, the drum quality is kinda vague for me to comprehend.

I'm kinda confused actually to where the Yamaha Hip Gig actually stands.

Does it fall between the Beginner, intermediate or the advance category?

I'm intending to get a set bcos, my band intend to busk and portability is a MUST.

Since the bass drum for the hip-gig set is raised, can it fit any kind of pedals or do we have to use the particular pedals given?

Hope that any Yamaha drum experts can help me clarify this matter.

Thanxx!!

Btw, Yamaha drum rocks!!

I know dat since i own one!!

alright, i guess i qualify as a Yamaha drum expert.. ha ha

The Hipgig, well... would probably be considered somewhere between intermediate and pro drums? they are made in Japan, that makes them pro.. They are made of birch (pro) and Phillipine mahogany (not so pro!)..
They are priced in the intermediate range for Yamaha drums, but are smaller sized and configured, so can't really be compared directly..

You will be able to use any kick pedal, the drum is lifted to a "normal" playing height, and there is a baseplate for you to clamp your pedal to like you would on a normal bass drum hoop.
