dx-7 is so hard to find, even the dx-7 mkII. yeah it's without speaker (being a synthersizer). i cant remember, but it should have RCA jacks and 1/4" jacks as well. was so long ago when i touched it.
is there a fm tone which you want which is only found in dx-7? why arent you considering the newer keyboards? even the new generation 'portasound' psr series are quite cool in terms of tone.
wondering why such interest in dx-7 lately. due to the animation monsters vs aliens (dx-7 playing the 5-tone close encounter motif and axel-f)?
i think the 5-tone close encounter motif wasnt played on dx-7 in the close encounter movie, it should be a arp2500. but's it true that dx-7 is used in axel-f.
I was about to discourage you from buying until I found that you had already bought it.
Since that's the case, enjoy.
Hidden cost of vintage gears include cables cost, batteries (if you're lucky, it'll use the common CR2032 or CR2450 lithium cells; if not, You'll have to special order batteries like the BR2335 Rayovac Lithium Coin Battery for EMU modules) & repair cost (my roland JD990 LCD will cost $500! to replace - a second set goes for about $600+).
i;ve tried the dx -7 in one of those old jaming studio near cck mrt...forgot the name..the studio with the full 100% glass wall and doors....
other than the sought after fm sounds i tink there was a famous ep sound, which reali reali stands out....but...maybe just as a stand alone sound...to use dx-7 in modern bands (if u are in one)...without the layers and inability to customised fast on the fly....maybe its not the best bet.
in fact its a much downloaded and emulated sound...i.e korg users emulated it for the extreme and its a popular download in korgforums.com
still ..if i have the money...wouldnt mind collecting this legendary piece of once sold out winner in the 80s.
thank you good ppl for the directions..
i got old one stash in my store somewhere.. depeche mode days la eheh
will try take a look at it's version when & if i find it.. heehe.. iicr was using fdd
