Hey anybody owns this? saw it and played today at music plaza and kinda love it. alnico and duncan jb pups. mahogany body and neck, maple top, rw fingerbrd. and going for abt $730 with additional discount. dunno made where tho, anyone knows?
would love to hear any thots/gripes/pros/cons on this piece. thks all!

i believe its made in taiwan, my friend has the AES820 with DiMarzio pups, its sweeeet, and i believe the 620 cant go wrong either with duncan pups, just the pups alone are worth it man! well constructed, sweet tones and really power when in overdrive/distortion. $730 is freaking cheap man!! it sells for bout RM2500 here in m'sia (correct me if i'm wrong)

superb quality guitar!

i recalled playing this guitar before... it's those rare moments when there's nobody in the store & Beez just handed me a guitar to try... i didn't play it for long 'cause it has a finished neck- not my type...

i'll double check if it's Korean/ Taiwanese...

It's Korean. It's printed on the back of the guitar. There's only 1 Duncan pup btw. The neck pickup is Yamaha stock. One thing about the maple top is that its veneer, so tonality wise, probably not much alteration.

You can't go wrong with this one.

i tried it once...i like it because its really quite comfortable but after awhile like subversion mentioned about the neck...sucks when u sweat.

thks for all the comments. korean made? pretty darned good value must say then. i kinda liked the finished neck actually, my strat also has the finished neck so yeah, but i get the sweat thing. but then considering i don't gig, guess its pretty ok for me. so, sounds like good value for money guitar. thks for the thots guys. appreciate it.
any idea what the tone knob actually adjusts? actually never got round to finding out meself. which freq it adjusts? and does it matter whether its set neck or bolt on? juz wondering how major a diff it will make. thks.

and juz curious any thots on the sg1000? looks particularly sweet. going for 1.4k therabouts. worth it? cheers

i have the yamaha SG200 and i tell ya, its one SUPERB ax!!!

it plays up to par, if not better than other more expensive axes like les pauls n stuff

im still using it for leads n solos while my ex400 does rythm

i've only come across Yamaha's SG2000 & 700, i don't recall any 200 or 1000 models- any links perhaps?

fibredrive: your strat has a finished neck? which model is this?

only pic i could find
its a pretty old model, mine is 20 yrs old already
still plays like a dream..

set neck, 2 humbuckers, tuneomatic bridge, 22 frets

subversion - mine's a '57 reissue J-Craft one. actually, am just assuming you guys 'call' it a finished neck, its kinda like a tinted neck. same feel as the AES620 neck, the finish i mean.

music plaza has the sg1000 hanging in their store window. didn't get a chance to play it cos firstly, its in the store window, and secondly, it costs a bomb. to me at least.

hey guitarnub - the sg200 looks sweet too. am sure it plays superbly. sighz, wish can afford. maybe someday la...:)

i have utmost respect for the Yamaha SG, it's simply very good. in my books, it ranks above Les Pauls, definitely. a few years ago, British mag GUITARIST did a head-to-head, Yamaha SG2000 vs LP Std, the Yammy was the winner, that's how good it was...

subversion i have a question , with a finished neck , does it mean it is less prone to warping because the paint prevents the sweat from entering the neck?

nope. neck warping isn't about moisture entering the wood grain. in any case, if the wood is adversely affected by water then it shouldn't be used for guitars in the first place. if you get a chance to see the PRS factory tour video, you'd see that some stages of fine sanding involves water...

neck warping is mainly temperature/ force related, luckily fender agreed to the truss rod installation & everyone followed suit. leo insisted that it wasn't necessary, he claimed his necks were strong, he even made an empleyee stand on a neck just to drive the point home. however, it's not about how strong the neck was, it's about its reaction to temperature. many initial telecasters were returned to the factory because of warped necks... leo nearly went to court for it- customers claimed they were sold defective products...

HOFNER: how's your Spider amp coming along? any likely reviews here? 8)

hey subversion, any thots on the Yammy SG500b then? saw it on musicplaza's website but have never seen it in the shop. its roughly same price as the AES620. but no JB on the bridge and i dunno what woods etc. looks sweeeeeeetttt tho...keke. i so superficial right....sighz...
