Not really worth importing from overseas

Those prices are in US dollars right. Plus the shipping i bet it will cost a lot because they are cymbals, being heavy make the shipping cost more.

When you change the currency to sing dollars, i believe it will cost almost the same to the prices in Singapore

But for those willing to pay the price, i believe you have widen the softies choices.

They don't do international shipping for Zildjian cymbals.

the thing about singapore is there are very little music stores to begin with.
and each of these stores are often the sole/main distributor of a certain brand. meaning to say, you won't find a store that carries all sabian paiste zildjian etc.

oh and if you're looking for something that can't be found in musician's friend, likely chances are that you won't be able to find it in sg.

CymbalsOnly carries, by far, the best and most comprehensive selection of Bosphorus Cymbals I have seen and it also has the best prices in the US (short of going to Turkey and buying direct from Bosphorus Turkey itself)

I have purchased a few Bosphorus cymbals from CymbalsOnly and have it shipped *cheap* to a US address which I visit frequently, or have it *vpost* back if my travelling schedule doesnt allow. I know Tony of CymbalsOnly but unlike in Singapore or in some Asia countries, who you know doesn't mean you can get a good deal on their cymbals ;)

Contrary to what you think - if you freight via a ship container (as opposed to air-ship), the weight doesnt make too much of a difference. Rather the package size makes a difference. In this aspect, a flat package (such as cymbals) doesnt cost too much to ship if you can wait. Obviously, a nice pair of hats or 16" cymbals makes an ideal size to check into with your baggage, together with the cushioning of winter clothings :)

CymbalsOnly is a good alternative as the local dealer Accent only brings in the "main-stream" Bosphorus cymbals. They used to be adventurous but judging by how slow their higher-end and odd-sized Bosphorus cymbals moved off the shelf, they are sticking to the safer side. They bring in the most 16" Bosphorus Traditional Crashes and actually modified them to be sold to schools as hand-cymbal crashes.

So, if you want the odd sizes or the higher-end ones, you have to wait for their regular ordering cycle (which can be on a per-annual basis) and you neither get to determine the weights nor get to hear the samples.

Throughout the past year, I have made several contact with the good people in Bosphorus Turkey itself and barring any unforseen circumstances, I hope to acquire the latest high-end series from Bosphorus called the Oracle series (designed with Ralph Peterson).

This should be unveilved in NAMM 2010 and fans of BIG-A**-BELL Cymbals are in for a treat for the Bosphorus Oracle's...

You're in luck: the US dollar is dropping faster than a sh*t load of bricks. Pretty soon the SG dollar will be worth more. No worries, mate. Just wait it out to your advantage.

Which drum shop in SG have an equivalent selection to choose from as this website? I would like to visit them my next trip to see what they have. Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with Zildjian; maybe they leave all the sales up to their distributors abroad.

Hope that day will come, Then i will buy loads of stuff.

But we'll see how long US dollar takes to drop. I check the exchange rate everyday, I rarely see 1 US dollars is equivalent to $1.2 sing dollars or below. Most of the time the value is always $1.3 sing dollars and above for each US dollars.

Oh hell yeah man, I've bought lately from Ebay and the exchange rate is around 1.4XX. But I dun tink it'll drop till Singapore's value.

I highly recommend people to look on Ebay for good steals and buys as there's bigger variety while at the same time some of them are NEW! International shipping or not, there're plenty of outlets to bring items to Singapore shores, you just need to GOOGLE for them. Vpost/Speedpost shipping is one service to abridges that gap.

Cymbals aren't cheap. You go anywhere also the same. Be it more variety or can find those discontinued and rare cymbals, you have money, you can buy anything.

As the Singaporean saying goes, "no money, no talk".

I start to feel like this is a thread for making money from softies.

That's a cool info fm you brother USA.

I've been thinking of getting cymbals & still searching for the sound of cymbals that I want to add to the kit.

Keep it up bro!
Happy Drumming.

Say what??? I started this thread to offer those who are looking for alternatives, to the typical "run-of-the-mill" BS inventory your local music stores push, a choice and nothing more. If you want to read into it more than what it is, then that's your problem.

But for the rest of us who aren't worried about the "boogie man" behind ever corner trying to rob us of our "hard-earned" dollars, this is a godsend that someone out there is actually dealing only in high-end cymbals for those who would want them and can't find them in their local stores (and, yes, that would even include the music stores in my area too) and offering them at reasonable prices. And that is why I started this thread. If you want cheap cymbals then I'm sure you know where to get them.

Lol... Don't get mad. Cheers:D

I do understand your intention, don't worry. I'm not trying to say that you are an agent sent by cymbalsonly.com to do something bad to softies or anything. ;)

You are only trying to widen softies choices to getting cymbals.

For those of you who are looking for a good variety of high-end cymbals to add to your stash, www.cymbalsonly.com is worth looking into. Each cymbal has been recorded so that you can actually hear the exact cymbal you're interested in before buying it. And they also ship internationally as well. The variety offered is even better than what most drum shops carry in my area (and being around Chicago, that's quite a charge).

The prices aren't bad either—especially when you're talking about high-end cymbals.

Yes, Tony's got a wonderful site going there. Quality of the sound clips are great. The length of the sound clips are just about fine. The respective cymbal in the clip is played in different musical contexts. Very very helpful when it comes to purchasing cymbals.

I've yet to buy a cymbal from Tony, but I've been tempted many times before. Traded emails and he's a real stand-up guy.

Sure beats the trashy service you get at our local stores. Besides, the variety and the quality of cymbals offered in our local stores are absurd.

Uh I don't ever think I ever said cymbals were cheap at all. Cymbals are investment for those who can afford it and live with the costs of having one. Having said that, drums were never a cheap instrument to start with. I don't understand what you're getting at, but having more variety and outlets for the drumming community to look into is a plus point.

Whats your point really? Making money from the softies? I never forced anyone to buy alright.

If I'm to have a drum kit. I seriously do not know how to choose cymbals. Looks like I have to get USADrummer to help me out with the selections & purchase.

The choices I have here are Guitar Center, Sam Ash, and a handful of independent drum shops. Of course everything is picked through most of the time, unless you know when they're getting a new shipment in, and even then, good luck with that!

The other choice is taking the chance of ordering, sight unseen and unheard. The last time I bought a cymbal in a store was earlier this year at Sam Ash. They had a better selection than Guitar Center, but nothing really "high end", and mostly everything they had in stock was geared for heavy metal/rock. Really nothing much for the jazz drummer. The closest was a first generation 22" Zildjian K-Custom "Dry Complex" ride that sounded too washy and strange. I ended up getting a 22" K Zildjian "Dark Ride medium". It's OK but nothing compared to a 21" Legacy or Istanbul "Epoch" ride.

Next time I'll buy from Tony and get what I really want. Sound is everything.

Sounds exactly like our situation here in Singapore, which is really sad if you ask me.

I do not like the earlier Dry Complexes and the current Dry Complexes. The wash on those are a turn off now, though they crash really really nice! The 22" K Dark Medium ride's a great cymbal (one of the best modern Zs made IMHO, if you get the right one), but definitely, isn't much when compared to a Legacy or an Epoch. Lol! Not a very fair comparison!

Absolutely. Sound is everything. Yes.

Hey there Bruce,

Well, for me. It will take quite some time for me to decide on the cymbals & sound. Well, this is what I'm gonna do. I will try to see yr selection of cymbals to yr personal preference & I'll see whether it fits me.

I will have various drummers with various tastes & feel. Will decide once I got to finalise after going thru various drummers' preference.

Seriously, I'm totally new with cymbals. Don't know where & how to start with. Kinda need yr help once you are back in Singapore bro...

:)
