You should think twice about jumping from a HD400 to the Eleven Rack - don't forget that with Eleven you don't get a controller.
Tone wise, I think you can get decent results with either.
Features wise, it's better to compare the HD500 to Eleven Rack.
If you do recording I recommend you check out Amplitube 3.6 (you figure out where you can find it).

But like what you said, i wouldn't know exactly it is any better.
