WTB: Left-handed acoustic/electro-acoustic guitar for beginners (budget around $200)

Hi All,

I am an absolute beginner seeking to buy a guitar for myself, so that I can learn how to play the instrument. However, being a left-hander, it hasn't been easy to find an affordable, beginner-level guitar for me to learn to play with, as there isn't much choice to start with when most shops only have one left-handed guitar among their entire collections, and tend to be a fair bit more expensive than similar right-handed ones. So here I am, continuing my search online.

May I know if there are any places or people I can look for to find a left-handed acoustic/electro-acoustic guitar that is within my budget? I don't mind buying second-hand, as long as it is well-maintained. Thank you very much.

isn't it as simple as swapping over the strings? just buy a guitar with no cutaway and reverse the strings and you'll have a left-handed guitar. there shouldn't be significant problems with the electronics either, just remember that the controls will be reversed, i.e. bass will become treble, treble will become bass. if you'd like, i can have my guitar set up like that, do comparisons and post videos. :)

Not to mention that on top of all my controls being reversed, the tuner and equaliser and other gadgets on most right-hander electro-acoustic guitars will be pressed onto my thigh if I played them left-handed and sitting down, so I practically can't use any of those functions sitting down, and would be using them blind otherwise. Even re-stringing pure acoustic guitars is purely a compromise, albeit a smaller one as compared to other types of guitars, instead of an optimisation for left-handers, since every part of the guitar, other than, well, the strings, would be the wrong way round. Well, the really really small things that only rather strongly left-handed people (like me) notice and don't really like.

Anyway, I've just bought a left-handed acoustic guitar to start learning with. Shall only think about getting a full-fledged left-handed electro-acoustic after I come even close to learning enough. Which I'm not expecting to be soon. Thanks anyway!

or you could have your acoustic guitar have a pickup installed on it later, the cheapest (music theme at peninsula) does it for $145 for a basic pickup and installation. :)

I have a very nice left-handed Epiphone LP-100 guitar for sale. It is a proper left-handed guitar with a left-handed cutaway, very nice to play with a good humbucker sound - I've enjoyed it a lot, but have upgraded recently. Please let me know if you're interested, here is a picture:
