Worst "Audition" experience.

Well I'm sure some of us have been "auditioned" by bands that needed to fill up their line up. Most of the line up is already there put they just need that one extra person to complete the puzzle. Some of these bands are mates or been playing together. What is your worst experience auditioning?

Hopefully this can be a learning guide as to how to improve both ways as an auditioner and auditionee.

I'm gonna start with my worst:

I auditioned for this 'semi-professional' band that claimed that it was heading towards the recording stage of their musical journey and all they needed was avocalist as their former one bailed.

So when I went in, they were pretty cordial and nice but then it was time to "audition". So they asked me what I wanted to sing and I listed out a few popular songs... none of which they knew how to play. I'm talking about songs that practically all of us have hears one time or another (U2, Bon Jovi, GnR).

The only song that they did know how to play sounded nothing like how i remember the song should sound (maybe its just me). Needless to say I did not join the band (or I wasn't selected).

In their defense I checked out their previously recorded songs on Myspace and they were pretty awesome (to me at least). But just as a reminder to bands that audition, prepare a song list of songs that you can play decently which will let the auditionee at last know what to expect and prepare and even get a feel of the kind of music the band is comfortable playing.

Just my 2 cents. No intent at flaming any band just a personal exprience. Peace.

haha.. thats a weird and funny experience keorfas. well for me.. its the same situation.. just that im the auditioner. lol

my band auditioned this guy, and we didnt really prepare a list, due to some miscommunication.

Ended up playing songs that he doesnt know at all.. of cos he just bable thru the songs. ( he learnt the song on the spot and "blabla" the tunes)

 My experience.

i guess the worst thing is to either reject a an auditionee or be rejected or reject the auditioner.

but keorfa your experience sounds funny haha

Hahaha... yeah I can see the humor in it now... but at the time it was really kinda frustrating. But hey some things are just not to be. lol.

i think both parties are at fault here. before auditioning, both the band and the person being auditioned should work out a set list of songs for the audition session. thats way = lesser cockups.

my worst experience was when i auditionined for this band, we worked out a set list and everything. on the audition day itself, the band ended up missing one member, was an hour late and didn't know what they were doing in the studio.

worst is when the whole band doesn;t turn up or even pick up their calls.

my worst is... ... ... ...
its with bro marilyn...
he like look at me in the eye...
dunno if he's at lalaland or i played sumtink wrong

and its still goin on now everytime we jam... :)

Exactly.. Isn't that like a duh? Hahaha..
If you're trying out the band, you can't expect the band to be able to play everything popular..
Same for the band, you can't let the person trying out just learn the song on the spot.. I understand too that it'd be impossible for bands to "spot" the song the auditioner would attempt to sing..

hmm..that's why i said

and i don't do audition
so people if you're interested in working with me..go ahead

cause..i have no right and im not big people to AUDITION you guys
if i do, it's unfair to you guys!!!

so yeah...i main issue is...

HOW LIVE CAN YOU BE??

think about it....>>>hahaha...

opps..sorry!! didn't read carefully...

oh my!!i'll so pissoff if the band doesn't turn up or even pick up their calls!!

this is so !!!!

Yup very true. I guess I learnt that the hard way. Now whenever I jam with any band I always ask if there's any particular songs that they wanna jam.

You have to man.. Always be prepared before a jamming session..
Never ever ever learn together in the jamming room! Cash wasted..
If you wanna write songs, do so with acoustic guitars, or record and work it out online..
The only thing which should happen spontaneously in a jamming studio is an open jam!
