Wierd stuff happening from my guitar

I recently bought a Epi LP Custom Plus from a seller online. When i plug it into the Laney LG 12 Amp. Turned on everything and the overdrive to the max to give it a test, i suddenly heard songs, erm.. some oldies hokkien songs. . I thought i was hallucinating, so i called my girlfriend and let her hear it through the phone. She confirmed that she heard it too.. Errr.. is that by any chance, someone can explain to me technically why does this happen?

I thought it was some frequency issue, but after hearing for awhile, it doesn't sound like a radio channel to me. It's not some eerie songs, but just normal songs playing. Not one song repeating, but different songs playing. Hmmm..

1st) It only happens when i turn on the over drive.

2nd) The song seems to be received from my guitar, not the amp. As i turned the guitar volume down, the song's volume also go down.

Or has anyone experiece this issue before?

Haha, was kinda shock at first. At first, I thought my neighbour was playing some songs too loud. But after hearing for awhile, it came out from my amp. Spoilt and start playing songs by itself? But does this type of situation happen?

I tried playing with the guitar, it's perfectly fine to me other than the songs. Haha. It played quite softly but in a way that you can hear it.

i believe this is called noise interference. Most ungrounded, unshielded electronic that does amplifications will have this prob. Rightfully you should not hear it because the manufacturer will not expect you to turn up to max :D

Anyway the sound is pickup by your pickup. Try a single coil guitar, you'll receive your hokkien song louder. To solve this, either check your grounding, shielding or turn down the vol and gain!

The worse place i've experience this is at a jamming studio where the 50watt amp transforms into a big radio.. damn..

Whahaha!!! I see.. hmmmm.. i understand what you mean. So pickup does pick up interference?

That means to say, I did not hear it from my acoustic (with over drive turned to the max) cause my acoustic pickup is hidden inside the body?

Okay I've tried again, this is what I've found out

1) Songs only comes out when i turned on my overdrive. (It need not be max, it happens when it reaches a certain level)
2) With my Amp volume turned to the max, my guitar volume off. The song is gone. (I conclude that the songs come from the guitar not from the amp)

ah no..

your acoustic guitar uses contact microphone technology.. some called piezo or transducer. These don't work like your regular electric pickup which is magnetic. Your reg electric pup response due to the magnetic wave change caused by the strings.

Ok i'm not so good at explaining this..
Read BBC - h2g2 - How Guitar Pickups Work

This is what i read from a website regarding guitar pick ups. Guitar Hum & Noise

Electromagnetic radiation is all around us, but not all of it concerns our guitar & music equipment. Most electrical noise is radiated from lights, computers, televisions & intentional radio transmitters to name a few. AM Radio transmitters have been blamed a lot for interference - There's a notable Jimi Hendrix recording where a local AM radio station clearly swamps his guitar & Marshall Stack. Radio stations are a case in point - If you live near a radio amateur or AM transmitter, you may well have heard transmissions through your speakers, even when the amp is turned off!

Its not uncommon larz. Can reduce it with better wire insulation etc. Might be the pick ups too... depends really...

Your amp is possessed. I'm kidding.
Sometimes, the same thing happens to the amps at Scape studio when my band's jamming.

can you ppl please tell him the truth?!

he's attained a god-like level in guitar playing that all he has to do is plug the guitar in, max out the gain and songs will play by itself..

*salute*

im bein cranky! i'll make a good tube amp.

Its your pickups. I never get this problem even where it is known to give such issues. DiMarzio pickups and very quiet pedals. Try using multiple drive pedals and cascade gain, that way, you can use low gain settings on all pedals, get the same kind of crazy gain you want, while cutting back on the gain hiss at the same time.
