Why is it most of the people here like to scream instead of sing?

vocalists of screamo bands do sing ,
vocalists of death metal bands can sing too.

when ur talking about screamo , as in , the genre , it means Scream + Emo .
their songs are mainly singing and part here part there is screaming. maybe the verse of at the background. but they sing as much.
an example is Silverstein.
they're a screamo band , but they sing alot . they do scream too.
and i believe if the band is famous worldwide , it proves that they make good music with a good vocalist.

as for death metal , vocalists of melodic death metal bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquility do sing here and there in their songs. but in this case , they growl more than they sing. much more. but when they sing , its real nice.

and no , metallers dont do 'amateurish shit' .

no offense or anything man.
just my opinion and sharing what i know.
and i believe EVERY musician should be respected.
peace.

I agree. Has anyone heard the Nightwish bassist sing btw? He usually growls but when Tarja left he sang a lot more and god, lovely voice. Scoopy, but I love it. Hope to hear more in the future...

and for the same token id like to see all those screamo/death singers pull off a proper singing voice, not some amatuerish shit but something with timbre, vibrato and power.

It's obviously not easy I can tell you that much, because both techniques clash with each other. I have tried, it can be done, but you'll either mess up or compromise the other vocal style and it's hard to achieve a good balance in being skilled with both.
It's kinda like asking Maria Callas to sing a piece in opera and switching to growling in the choruses; I don't think I need to explain how difficult that is not to mention taxing on the cords...

With that point noted, I don't think it's fair to call any clean metal vocals 'amateurish', given the task of switching isn't exactly easy, -especially- when you know how both techniques work. Switching vocal styles is never easy, let alone switching techniques, so whatever I hear on a growler's clean vocal is more than enough for me to appreciate and I don't deem it worthy as me being a listener or a vocalist to put that word against another vocalist accomplishing something like that. No offence, but it'll do to have some respect :)
