Why is it most of the people here like to scream instead of sing?

i scream when i feel like screaming.

i like ice-cream too but that's a whole different story:mrgreen:

baik ah. got friend.

anyway, i dont like music which is filled with ONLY screaming/growling but at the end of the day, thats just my opinion.

oh, lepak, haha dunno la. i think those who can scream is cool, but its sort of, a common talent la in the hardcore business. almost everyone's doing it now.
i still find it cool, though.

Its common I agree. But not many people scream properly also... They use thier throat... Besides its personal. For i, if could sing like audioslave (chris cornell) I would quiet screaming, but since i cant sing that well I rather not sing. Many screamers can sing. Just that thier genre does not require it...

For me, I'm okay with music that has screaming, but I'd prefer male singers to do it with minimal amount of screaming. That's why i like breaking benjamin. But I can't stand female singers screaming away in their songs.. besides annoying, it sounds like pontianak or banshee on PMS. But I heard Amy Lee from Evanescence did a little bit of screaming that goes "I WANT TO DIE!!!!" in the song "Tourniquet". Not bad actually.. That's because she did it once for only one sentence of a song of all albums..

There are female vocalist who don't scream badly.Try 'In This Moment' and 'Flyleaf'.

well...I prefer a mixture of screaming and clean vocals.

i think both screaming and singing has its required skill. but sadly i think that most pple scream cos they cant sing properly like master control, timbre and vibrato and use screaming as a form of escape from actually bothering to practise. not really a " i choose to scream cos i love screaming" but more a " i scream cos my singing voice sucks and screaming is just a way to hide all that"

i think one awesome example of one singer who has the grit in his voice to be considered elements of a scream is his voice is dio. its like hes got awesome control and vibrato and his voice takes on this grit sometimes which reminds me of a guitar player in the differences of clean and distorted.

heres a track with loads of awesome singers who know when to add the grit to their vocals when needed.

This thread is pretty redundant :/

So let me join in!

LINKIN PARK FTW!
Love chester's singing and forced-out non-technic-ish screams as opposed to death growls and screams which can get a tad bit boring. (I do love SOME)

I think TS is just not used to heavier alternative vocals. :)
Theres always Iron Maiden! :)

you'd hate arch enemy. growl all the way + female vocalist :D

one thing I hate is how people think screaming/gore-ing/pig squealing doesnt require skill.
'singers' pass it off as a boosh1t way of being a vocalist.
a little bit arrogant.
i'd like to see these so called singers do a decent screamo/death metal song. (or maybe do a rise against-ish melodic hardcore song)
im not saying I prefer one over the other though, I believe music is music. stop segregating.

dont talk sh1t about stuff you dont know/never tried before.

music is art, art is expression. its just that different ppl express their emotions, feelings and thoughts different. the trick is to appreciate how different each genre of music expresses the musician's art.

HA. not everyone can do it, not even me!

i can't really appreciate death metal, heavy metal and stuffs like that, but i dun mind listening to flyleaf and red jumpsuit apparatus once in awhile. =] peace.

I'm not one of those clean vocalists who don't appreciate growls / screams... in fact, I wish I could do it but I can't :/ It's really not as easy as it looks and a whole different level of technical skills..

I don't think it's more to do with the style of singing, but how it integrates with the genre of music.. You'd need to be able to digest its genres before you could appreciate the type of singing that goes with it..
It's just like classical music with opera or new age with throat singing..

bah bah bah..

hmm i see someone mentioning about mummy angela gossow?
seriously. she sound way better than most guys who growls..

anyways. its take skills to sing, and takes skill to screa/growl.

people can say, "hell, I can sing"
but can you sing well?

people can say, "scream? i too can scream"
but are you screaming it the proper way? or are you just 'screaming'?

its takes equal amount of talent for both.
i've been listening to alot of styles, all of them are music.
i rest my case

I scream best when I see house lizards on the wall in front of me...

That should mean if I were to sing in a screamo band, it'd make sense to have the audience dress up as house lizards.

*imagines*

wah dang, hey sage tell me on the dates you have shows and i'll come dress up as a lizard (if i can find a costume)..

and if im free.....

im so going to get maimed in the pit..

it depends on preference for me ,
im into metal alot and i think death growl is a form of expression.
expressing hatred and death and you know , those brutal stuffs.
you dont expect them to growl about love and oh-you-broke-my-heart kinda stuffs right.
but there're screamo , metalcore bands doing that uh.
scream scream scream.

when singing needs voice and technique ,
growling do too.

=pedialite

and for the same token id like to see all those screamo/death singers pull off a proper singing voice, not some amatuerish shit but something with timbre, vibrato and power.
