Yeah - it's true - it's not just Singapore; just about everywhere you go there are people who hate Malmsteen - they don't look beyond the surface and they automatically diss him because he plays fast alot; most of it comes from people who are just plain jealous.
Personally I love Yngwie - from the first moment I heard him ("I'll See The Light Tonight") I knew I wanted to play like that (I still can't 17 years later, but he inspired me to really work on my technical chops).
Michael Angelo is just fast for fast's sake (sorry MA fans) and he really isn't in Yngwie's league in terms of improvisational skill and overall musicality.
That's good to hear. My friends call skid row "old fashion" but i still like them and YES bach have one of the best voices around. Shown in the "best vocalist" thread. Izzy Stradlin anyone?
Oh I definitely agree on that. If YJM and MA had a guitar duel, YJM would skin MA alive. First YJM song that captivated me was "Blitzkrieg" and I have about 30, 40 YJM songs as compared to 3 MA songs. Lol. Guess that says alot about who I prefer more.
Have I answered this?? Anyway here's my top 3 major influences in taking up the guitar..
Yngwie Malmsteen - Heard/saw him for the first time when I was a tender age of 6 and I knew I wanted to play the guitar...
Slash - He made guitar playin cool.. Period..
John Petrucci - Made me realise that guitar playing is much more than just "playing". Melody, technique, tone.. This guy got it all.. Hopefully someday I will as well...
Other honorable mention in influencing my playing includes: Marty Friedman, Jesper Stromblad, Steve Vai, Sugizo, Hillary Ang/Kid (Search), Man Kidal and Mikael Akerfeldt...
