I donno where else to post so i thought this section will be ok....

The question is,Anyone here knows alot about electronics and abit of wiring?

Coz i want to buy a sound sensor for me room light where if there is a clap or wat the light will turn on and off....Sim lim tower retails at 10 bucks plus.but there only give a kit which consists of a chipboard, resistor, some leds ..etc....i hope someone experienced would help me ..thx...

You could send me the kit and I could upload the necessary programming onto the chip. So far I've only done this with the Arduino board: http://www.vimeo.com/3020247 (physical wiring will be left to your family electrician; I can't drill holes or do all those things they do to build your home lights)

It's possible that the kit comes preloaded, so you may only need to wire it.

How this works is a sound-sensitive device, commonly a "piezo", translates physical vibration waves to electronic pulses which are then sent to the "microcontroller" or circuit board. This controller needs to have either electrical composition or computer-uploaded code to use the electrical signal in a way that it can carry out "conditional" processes, i.e do something if/while/until something happens. In the case of a chip with low-level computer commands it translates the electrical voltages to digital data, can set a threshold and if it gets a sound level above that, it will toggle the circuit to the light with a 1 or 0, essentially closed or open, ON or OFF.

The kit you saw is for students to learn about electronics one right?

I think this kind of kit usually has all the necessary component included. Just need to connect everything up according to the instruction.

Your challenge would be to integrate it to your house lighting system.

yeah i'm imagining if you and your friends watch soccer and they go "GOAL!!! *clap**clap**clap**clap*...".... would shock the hell out of their pants at first. thought your house haunted haha.

some of the kit at sim lim is for low voltage one. Its like a toy.

House lighting is connected to our mains. You dont play around with that. Go look for lighting stores, check with them on the availability of such sensor and whether is it approved by hdb to be installed.

All the power sockets, lighting circuit etc have its own electrical network, which is not for anyone to tinker with. Anything done wrong, at very least, it will trip the main breaker, worst thing, get electrocuted.
