but remenber we can learn from them but we must have our own style!!
hm.. going to work .. later then i post mine cya

There's alot of good singers to learn from actually. If you ask me, like for instance in rock music Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale are those I really learnt alot. But to be honest, who actually get me started on singing....hmm....it's Muhammad Rafi. An Indian Singer in the 60's. When I was young, I used to see hindi movies everytime and then. You know Hindi movies are very musical and that really influence me in picking it up.

Some singers that influences me are :-

1. Luther Vandross
2. Michael Jackson(Jackson 5 period)
3. Cliff Richard
4. Frankie Avalon
5. Anne Murray
6. Chrisye
7. J.Mizan

et cetera-et cetera....too many to name. Every singers have their own trades. Well...learning from their singing is always a good start. You'll tend to create your own style in singing after having heard many of those you admire.

For me it's uh..

1-Justin Timberlake
2-Elliot Yamin
3-Jason Mraz
4-Sam Sparro (Just recently found his voice damn sexy..haha..)
5-Stevie Wonder

Well these are the names i can come up with at the moment(cuz i can't remember some others..:()..but for me if it sounds gd..and i think i can learn from it...then it's an influence..haha..

er... I kinda divide them according to what style and what tone I want to observe/learn from most of the time... Just for reference before trying to integrate it with my voice :D I try not to focus on only one or two singers of a similar style, cos I don't want to end up completely mimicking them (which I tend to, given the regularity).. and cos since there's too many influences at one go, it'll be easier to form my own voice (cos no choice already haha)

Here's my list~ and I know there are more worthier names to note but these are just my personal preferences in terms of tone/timbre/vocal style etc...
They're not necessary my favourites either (like how I'm kinda obsessed about sarah brightman, but can't learn from her voice) but are chosen with its strongest sense of learning influence I can absorb most easily..

k ready set go!

Well the simple theory is that open mouth = more space = more voice less restrictions
And he's got one hell of a big mouth..

for ma own list i learn from 2 indonesian bands:

peterpan band lead singer also called Ariel. His voice is very flexible. Can do low pitch then move to higher softer pitch. Apparently they did Nirvana covers before they shot to fame in the indo music rock/alternative rock scene with their unique sounds.

YouTube - Bintang Di Surga - this song is called Bintang Di Syurga (Star in Heaven) It starts of with low pitch then move to higher pitch for the chorus.
So its good vocal training when yall sing this song. The MV is cool too.

For that hard rock voice, i practice singing songs by Radja band:
YouTube - Radja - Tulus

I wouldn't recommend to anyone learning to sing by listening to other singers. But Jeff Buckley has a great voice. Definitely one of my favorite voices.

can't believe no one's mentioned the Big O himself - the late great Roy Orbison or even Elvis. Man, those guys could really sing...
