Im hoping to get some opinions on some of the multi efx here... (enter stage left: multi efx gurus)

Just asked for analog pedals a few days ago now i go bitten by the multi efx bug

Ok so i hope this thread can become the multi efx educational thread too... like everyone post their opinions of the different multi efx pedals... owners of multi efx pedals please come in too! :D

Im thinking multi efx is really value for $$$ as it gives so many choices for such a cheap price. So after that one can decide on which effect one likes and then go the analog route.... :P

Erm lets assume that we already know the pros and cons of a multi efx.

Whats your budget? Boss GT8/Pod XT Live - if you're really serious abt multi-efx and have already made up your mind abt using one.

not really any budget.. getting good sound is worth every penny?

but this multi efx is just to get a good base to start analog

Its quite rare i must say to see an analog person go the multi fx route but i was hit with that bug. You know...theres Wah, rotary drum, phaser, flanger, tap tempo, whammy, like in a simple package. That made me go over to "the other side".

But its been an awesome ride on the multi fx route. I have a pod xtlive and its just awesome. But just be sure to get the program as it would make ure tweaking process a hell lot easier.

Some brands are better at modulations and effects, some are better at amp and cab modelling, others offer more tweaking versility.

Actually, I think Digitech currently beats all, simply due to this 3rd party software called MFX supermodels.

hey jing, my youth leader has tried every single multi effects, hahaha... he says podxt is still the easiest to use... one of the best too.

plus direct recording and downloadable updates from the line6 webbie, its like u get free effects after time tt kinda thing...

teee.

this 3rd party software called MFX supermodels.

the audio clips dont do it much justice..

most of all the gain stage samples SOUND THE SAME. dots. save the SULTANS OF SWINGGGG one.

between nickelback, disturbed, metallica, puddleofmudd etc etc, they dont have any discernable difference.. im saying this cos i can tell the difference between these 3 i chose.. so yeah.. go figure..

honestly for all its worth, get a gt8, and spend some time tweaking it, and you will NOT regret it.

GT! GT GT GT GT GT GT GT GT!!! 8!!!!!!!!!!

I swear by this monster..trust worthy and great as hell...the only downside. ,its heavy.=(

nickyseow: yea i am figuring what you're trying to say

"they dont have any discernable difference.. im saying this cos i can tell the difference between these 3"

they don't have any discernable difference so you can tell the difference? hmm

Anyway I can tell the difference and it is obvious to the point that anyone can tell. So it should be your computer speakers perhaps that there aren't any discernable difference.

What I'm puzzled about though is why are you comparing different sound clips together? Especially the high gain ones where it is very easy for nuances to be lost precisely because it's high gain.

I do have a few audio clips which demonstrates the prowess of the MFX supermodels better. PM me if you want them because I don't have an account to upload sound clips.

I don't really like the gt8. Sounds linear to me and only the stompboxes are authentic sounding. Amp modelling is dubious. Hopefully I can find the clip which compares these 2 multiefx together.

Here's a solo some guy did using the inbuilt recording functions of the gnx3000.

[Edit] http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/4/1046268/TPetyG3456.mp3 got my account working.

GNX4 and 3000 seems to be better in amp modeling compare to rivals. But effects are weak, delay is absolutely useless. I wish GNX comes with 4 cables method like GT8.

You need to spend time tweaking. GNX 3k has great amp modelling and effects *when* you tweak them properly. I mean the effects are modelled very closely to the original stompboxes and sound authentic. Saying the effects are pathetic is just as good as saying the original analog stompboxes are pathetic.

Besides, there's no usb function for the gt8 which is where it loses out big time to its competitors.

Indeed though you have to buy the effects that caters to your needs. eg. drum machine, Phantom Power, xlr i/o, inbuilt recording for gnx3k; amp switching etc. for gt8

Anyway, I stand by what I say by loading clips. Others ought do the same.

well..I have GNX4 for almost 3 years and tweak every aspect of effects on things that I use. Downloaded all patches from GNX sound community. Test drive GNX3K for many times and yes effects are still weak. DS1, MT2, TS9 on GNXs are far different from original stomp boxes and delay is again useless. Compression, Chorus, noise gate and Wah is usable. Amp modeling is good though. If you want to know the difference, plug straight in original stomp boxes to your rig without GNX and you will hear the difference. But this is modeling, I wont complaint too much on S$ 700 unit.

What GNX is missing is external effect insert and effect loop style four cable method in GT8 and warmth (just like others). Other than that GNX are pretty cool multi effect units. I dont like GT8 for amp modeling and lack of USB is really frustrating to edit.

I used to have a BOSS GT-5 and then changed to a PODxt (not the XTLive) and loved it....now, I am into pedals, but still having the PODxt

xklusivly4u I see your point. What I do feel is that digitech does very well against its competitors within this price bracket give or take.

I'd say take the POD.

I never really liked the sound of boss Multi efx, but its a personal thing, can't agree more with the posts about having to do some tweaking.
