This is my Jimharley lp , bought from guitar connection for $500

burny, orville, orville by gibson, greco and tokai are the front runners of LP copies. this is based on the popularity of these guitars in the web.

i have recently tried an orville, burny and tokai. they are really good, i feel it really surpass epiphones that are available in swee lee. please understand when i say "available in swee lee".

that is because i think there are quality epi's out there, but most of them are the older ones, those that were made in Japan. i think swee lee carries the new ones that are made else where. not too sure didn't try all.

but having said these, orville and orville by gibson are the safe buys. meaning, if you see one of these and they are using their original parts, it should be good. both are the same company, just that orville uses their own japanese pickups and orville by gibson uses original gibson pickups. so the latter will be more costly also.

however, for greco, burny and tokais, you need to know which version of each you are trying out. they are just like epiphones. they have different grades.

greco have their EG400-EG1000 series. this is to the best of my knowledge, don't know if there are others LP copies. EG400 are the lower range and as the number goes up, it gets better.

burny have their usual models made in japan but the best of them are the "Super Grade" series. their pickups in the better models are known as VH-1. alot of people out there seem to claim that of all the copies (greco, tokai, orville etc), this VH1 pickup is the closest to match Gibson. heard that the later burny are made in korea and the quality not too good, don't know how true.

tokai have their LS 50 - LS 240 (i think) series. similar to greco, the higher the number the better. those in davies are LS 80 or 85. also from my understanding, the best of their series LS-240, is selling at around SGD$2,800 in japan. yah i know... same price as gibson standard... ha.

seriously, if you have a chance, try them out for yourselves and i think if you are just a lay person like me, you will find that there is really very little difference between these and the original (provided you get the right grade).

hope this helps.

cheers!

Hey heyy...My friend have a craftsman les paul copy which is exactly the same like that. Black in colour too. Killer looks.

But one thing is the guitar hardware suck bigtime. THe guitar is abit brittle too. The pickups are really weak too. He's really looking for a good pickups give them a change. Recommendations pleaseee??? :D . He's playing more on the melodic death edge and he is trying to find a tone close to dark tranquillity. :) :) :) :)

hmm.....i think i would just recommend u a epiphone les paul. if possible get the custom...cause the feel is there..if feel way more solid than a standard.... the tuner is fine.......just that my pickup is kinda muddy.....if possible if u have the $$$..u could easily change it to a pair of EMGs Or Seymour Duncan depending on which u prefer

( oh yah u if u get those flame maple design for the Epiphone custom, choose carefully, recently the ones i saw at bras barshar the workmanship not really consistent...my friends was all saying i was lucky to have got one which look better than most displayed in swee lee.)

...get the zakk waylde if u love the EMG 81 and his bulls eye design....just like Mr slyvester sim....tokai are also excellent..they look gd...sound not bad too....
