hi guys,

I am thinking of getting 2 pedals, one for heavy distortion- chunga chunga stuff and one as a JTM but able to roll of to be dynamic low gain drive. I cant decide between the 1) Mad Professor Mighty Red, 2) Dyna Red Distortion 3) Rockbox Boiling Point.

Any suggestions for which 2 to get for the different purposes?
Thanks guys

The BP isn't really a Marshall-voiced pedal (although one of the clipping modes is advertised as one) while the DRD is a bit loose and flabby so it ain't that compressed for that chugga chugga stuff.

The DRD though does clean up well but it isn't really a JTM-voiced pedal per se.

i have a modded crunchbox at the moment. it sounds flabby alone too but when i use it behind my bbplus (set to almost clean). the tone is tighten and thick when used for heavy distortion territory- my only issue is that it gets a little fuzzy in the mix. How would those pedals compare to the CB in this case? What about the mighty red? Is it capable of the high gain of a CB?

Never tried the Mad Prof. However the CB is very high gain as far as Marshall-in-a-box goes.

Something you can do is head to SV and try the:
BearfootFX DRD
Wampler Plextortion
Menatone King of the Britains
Weehbo JCM Drive
Weehbo Plexdrive

I think you'd like the Plextortion. And for the JTM thing you could in theory try the Box of Rock (if the Weehbo doesn't work out). They clean up well. Through the right amp it plays perfect but through the wrong ones it sounds too bassy.

Also at Penin, Sound Alchemy sells Himmelstrutz pedals. The Fetto pedals are great emulations of the Marshall tone but I've not tried them out yet. My guess is SV has several pedals able to do your thing. So check them out. Ooh and hotter Brown sound pedals (loosely Marshall-based) available at SV include the CmatMODS Brownie and Wampler Pinnacle.

the Knebworth has a great (guitar)volume-distortion response in its un-boosted mode. once the boost kicks in, metal-type ferocity is definitely achievable. it's very Marshall-esque in both modes.
