Which guitar polish is good?

WD40 will remove the protective layer... true. Recommend that you use it in conjunction with cotton swabs/sticks so that you don't spray direct and corrode the metal, but rather apply on the rusted areas.

i do use WD40 on my guitar even though i know that it does remove the protective layer. doesn't really rust a lot for me.

What about if its not rusted, but i just want to make
it look shiny and protect from rust?

Using Brasso alone will work right.

WD-40 is definitely not recommended, i bet.
