the term value for money can be thrown out of the window for guitars of this price bracket.
If you want one, you definetly need to know what you want and not go buying aimlessly cuz you suddenly have gas for it.
There are quite a few models of SGs in the Gibson Catalog now. Go check out the site and try them out, specials are usualy the cheaper of the lot, no neck binding and just dot inlays. The standard has the binding and crown inlays. The 61 ri has the classic 57 hums which may be the thing for you. If your looking for the P90 vibe, the SG classic will be good although u might have to go used on that. I dun see it on the Gibby website anymore. Oh ya the neck carve also differs between the models, the 61 i believe has the slim taper neck.
if your not sure its gonna be a keeper for you and resale is impt, the standard and RIs seem to hold their value better. Most impt is to go try them first hehe.
Im sure swee lee or guitar gallery has what you need. Saw 1 or 2 at Guitar Gallery when i was there the other day.
