We did this before. But just for the sake of an update, let's see what people are using nowadays. I will try to include as many as possible. I have my hunch which are the top - Garageband, Logic, Cubase, Protools. But let's see the results...


Sorry the poll only allows up to 10 entries. I coudn't include:

Mainly Digidesign Pro Tools M-powered with Mobile Pre at home and Digidesign Pro Tools LE with 002R at a couple of studios I freelance at.
Occasional Sony Sound Forge 9 here and there.
 
I used Nuendo and Adobe Audition in my home studio. Protools LE7.4 with 003 rack and Audition 3.0 in my office. Cheers...

I'm pretty sure there are quite a number of garageband users out there, judging by the number of questions/post referring to it in the past. Same with Cubase.

If we can get about 40-50 voters, it will give us a more or less accurate representation of software users. And I'm sure retailers will be interested in the current market.

Nobody on Digital Performer? Doesn't Para-di bring in MOTU products? I recall them selling quite a bit of DP and giving pretty good support.

I could only say that that is not many member in the SOFT. Actually, I should see Protools more as there are bread and butter for commercial studio.
 
Actually, SOFT represents most of the everyday users. We probably won't see many studio producers voting, but don't underestimate the market of the home producers. While Protools is great for mastering and studio production, midi seqeuncing tools are lacking compared to other DAWs. For those into home production/sequencing etc, workflow of other DAW may be more attractive.

There are not as many studios as those individuals who are into music production at home. Hence, this poll, if we get enough voters, will reflect a better picture of what the general people are using.

Interesting in another forum a few years ago, a similar poll was done. It was a forum more focused on sampling and softsynths. I believe there were more than 700 votes. And Sonar actually came as the top - a wide margin above all the others. I thought that was pretty interesting. But that poll was old. They are updating it. I thought seeing what Singaporeans are using will also be interesting.

May set the trend for distributors and retailers to market their products.

Guitarslave, there's no version 9. Version 8.5 is the version 9. This is a smart marketing move. It helps clear their stock of version 8. For version 8 users, they pay less to get 8.5 (of which features is as good as a whole version upgrade) and get a download version instead of a box version. Some features, like the ability to utilize 4GB of RAM for each 32-bit plugin within 64-bit OS - this alone can justify an upgrade.This means we can use up to 128GB of RAM for the plugins. 32-bit plugins are no longer limited by RAM. Another first for any DAW. Not to mention the new Audiosnap 2.

Hi everyone.

Since this poll is going on, I'll like to suggest, (sorry for hi-jacking) for the sole interest of those (Linux, PC or Mac Users) who are interested in home production - Why don't we share what we know? In what could be known as "Home Producers Unite"?

A yearly Linux/PC/Mac sharing/ edu/ What's new? event not to be missed?

I'll get the resources and lead if someone/s else with the knowledge of DAWs agrees to contribute...

BluePrint? GutteralPiss? Cheez? (come back leh!) James on CCs in Cubase?
