yes they are. U can search for more info on it online, pretty easy to find info on the history of the DS-1 just by googling "boss DS-1" or sth similar.

i think not only the ds-1 but all the boss stomp boxes are taiwan made.. not sure about the gt-10s and stuff though

Most Boss pedals are made in Taiwan, but some DS1s are made in Japan. They cost more, though, and I'm not sure where you can obtain them...
