Hey guys i wanted to get myself an amp...since i dun have one!!....i have around 500$ with me...and the kinda stuff i like to play is the kinda instrumental stuff to practice in the room....like vai, satriani, dream theater,friedman....i also like to play some rock like pink floyd, led zep, whitesnake,gnr...etcetc...but basically i want i guess a cheaper version of the sound of guys like vai, satch, petrucci, andy timmons...
i know thats asking a lot but it was just to give an idea about what kinda sound i want,i have some boss and dod single effect pedals....so can anyone recommend an amp??

what pedals do u have? might help.

but for one-stop shop amps...guess top of my list is Roland Cube 30 or 60. followed by Vox AD30VT/AD50VT.

the rest that u can't go wrong i guess, all these are really subjective, but, (within ur budget), Line 6 Spider II 30/60 watt series, Marshall MG30DFX, Marshall AVT20, Tech21 Trademark 10, Peavey Studio Pro 112.

cheers

any tube amps under $1k? :P

Sure.

Check out some of the little Fenders such as the Champ, Blues Junior etc.
On their own they won't give you a hard rock/metal sound, but with a decent distortion pedal...

get a second hand 5150 man ... you probably wont buy another dist pedal ever... i recall people selling 2nd hand 5150s for $600 - $800...

ya...5150 is fierce man..
but you might not be so lucky with the clean tone..
7 tube altogether...

another way...get a podxt...u can download tones of your fav player..
but then u need extra cash for the amp.

hook up via headphone for the time being..

hey guys what are your views on the marshall mg-15 micro stack.....any good.....
ps ...i dun understand the sytem of cabinets...what does it mean by a mg-15 head powering 2X10 cabinets.....also can i use the marshall distortion etc....

i dun think the 5150 is something i can afford first hand right.....not sure of price but i guess i will rrquire second hand.....it would be preferrable if the amp has a nice distortion!

I'm using the microstack, got it 2nd hand for 270. Better bass response than the normal MG15, cos it's a closed back (compared to the normal MG15 which is open back). Hence it gives you ballsy distortion tone, if that's wat u're after.

The 'head' of the amp is the module that comprises the preamp electronics and the controls. The 'cabinet' is what houses the speakers. For the MG15 microstack, it has two cabinets stacked on top of each other, with one 10" speaker in each. Hence, 2x10 cabinet. Get it?

thanks man that was useful...

hey guys anyone know anything about the Randall RG100sc......can get it second hand...is it worth 700$??

think randall produces some ballsy tone too. but they have this series where u can plug in different tube modules? is that the one? cos its worth it for $700...

That would be the Modular Tube Series (MTS). Co-designed with Egnater. That range costs a fair bit more than $700 though. Nice concept, but I doubt it would be all that popular, as it doesn't have the prestige of owning the actual amps it's mimicing, neither does it have the convenience and portability of modellers like the POD.

for randall, not so sure about the stereo chorus stuff. but hiwatt soudns promising, might wanna try it out meself. also looking at the reverend kingsnake apparently its coming in soon...or the goblin..
