Where's the soul in rock and roll?

good music is good music regardless of source. local or not.

those who don't watch local gigs on a regular basis have not right to generalise. please. not the usual "support locals. go baybeats every year".

the soul is there. the passion is there. but quality is the issue. good or bad leaves first impressions on those who seldom listen or watch. bad quality, first-time audiences will generalise or keep coming back to find the good ones.

Paid Gigs, trying, exposure or not, its the same thing that I mentioned in the previous post. I would Expect at least some level of decency and the most fundemental aspect of a performance is for the instruments to be Tuned.

I Do NOT think that Soul is about the "scene", how did you come to that conclusion?

Lets just say that a band plays the hell out of their performance, and leaving the crowd pumped and hyped, with the vocalist able to actually sing his parts and the instruments are tuned, drums are right on beat and playing the SHIT outta their material. Isn't that Exactly what a Good performance is all about?

ps: i didnt force any scene on you did i? you lost me there

Omg my dear sir, "I would Expect at least some level of decency and the most fundemental aspect of a performance is for the instruments to be Tuned."

Expect? Expect? level or decency?? have you been watching at a lot beginners band?

"I Do NOT think that Soul is about the "scene", how did you come to that conclusion?" - I don't know, cause you said "And if by "Soul" you mean supporting Blindly. then I have nothing to say."

Did i mention that "soul" is about supporting blindly? Lol, research bro research.. wait.. hold the thought..

you didn't even share your opinions about the Soul of rock & roll in this country..

"Lets just say that a band plays the hell out of their performance, and leaving the crowd pumped and hyped, with the vocalist able to actually sing his parts and the instruments are tuned, drums are right on beat and playing the SHIT outta their material. - Totally agree. But what if the performance was great but the people just don't get it or just not interested? i mean the bands have perform on big stages like bay beats or ignite, what about that? So is the band bad, or is it just the crowd? o.0

"ps: i didnt force any scene on you did i? you lost me there" - try the other way around, read bro.. i said, i don't prefer forcing people to like something or a scene.. etc.. etc.. , i did not say "you" force me or any people.. Lol?

anyways, you mention before that "Maybe if "most" people here think it sucks, maybe it Does suck?" ( local scene )

so do you think it suck? if it sucks.. i don't wanna force you to like the scene or support it.. i can only encourage.. get it?

peace.. ; )

First of all, you guys must Understand and Remember some points.

They are

1) playing at large venue liike esplanade, or ignite doesn't mean the band is better than those bands which never did.

2) Bands playing in like Tanglin chocolate bar doesn't mean they r lousier or smaller flies.

3) If your music doesn't move any audience,it doesn't mean you sux, but if u want to hear a lot of claps and cheerings on,u can always bring your own friends down to act as audience or your fans, its really that simple only. And if you bring your Own supporters i can gaurantee u that no matter how un-coordinate your band is,or even if u just jam twice and decide to gig, your friends will still clap and say your band is good. Why? because they luvluvluvluv your band, that's all.Why waste a trip down to see your band and boo u guys off?

So if you really want something as superficial as some cheers and claps, then just bring your friends and no matter where it is, Esplanade or gig in a small and sweaty/smelly studio, you will still enjoy it. But when u release your band's first album, then u will know where u exactly stand.

Very insightful replies from all softies here. Funny, when I saw this post, and the response and pages it had, I somehow knew that there will be some kind of flaming taking place inside the thread.

To me, Singaporeans talk too much. Too much talk and bitching about why this band is good, that band sucks and so on and so forth haha. I used to be like that too, until I realised that no point criticising so much, cos the real rockstars are the ones out there making music without giving a damn about what their critics think. If you like the music, go buy it. If not, well, go listen to Dream Theater or something else that floats your boat.

Oh, and before someone starts flaming me, I'm actually a DT fan....
