Hi Guys,

May i know where i can repair LED of my old boss Chorus pedal? Doesnt light up at all.

BTW, your opinions please?.....I bot a Visual Sound H20 2mths back and recently found my old chorus. Do u think i sould get rid of the VS H2O or u prefer new tech over old tech?

Cheers

How old is old (Japan pedal old)? Please see the label beside the power jack or bottom.

If you are using battery, the LED should light up. Else that mean spoil.

If you are using adaptor, and the label on the pedal say use ACA only, means you need to get the Boss ACA adaptor, using PSA adaptor or 9V adaptor means very low light or no light, but pedal should still function.

If stated PSA, standard 9V adaptors should yield light, else spoil.

All else fail, send it to me, I can check it out for you.

It's still working, just that the LED light is not working anymore with battery or with the boss adaptor.

Yeah, its MIJ and i believe its prob 20 yrs old or maybe slightly older.

Second question, is it worth it to repair the LED? I can also acertain whether the effect is switched on by hearing

Btw a Boss CE-2 or CE-3, screw the H20. :P

but its still a matter of taste.

Actually i prefer the no fuss CE2 too. Just that it was lost in the closet for a loooooong time due to my temp lost in interest.

You are a fast one on the trigger oh lord of the North! :D

Eh, grapple, keep that pedal. If you do not intend to sell it, leave it as it is. My MIJ DS1 has a problem with the LED too, in my case, it was a very hard to trace problem, and I've been bugging Randolf to help me fix it up. Doesn't do nuts to the tone, its just a quirk. :P

And believe me when I say, the CE-2 is fab. It can be modded to sound EVEN better.

no no no...H20 Sounds damn good.better than any boss pedals............to me....

Keep H20....

Actually it depends on your needs lah...

Your H20 issit the old one or the new one?

The knob with blue strip or white?

Trust me, Ive seen friends who have been die-hard boss chorus users switch to H20.

Or maybe sell to Vaiyen if you really hate it.

no no cannot.

H20 Rocks :D

I don;t hate it.......

I am with Shredcow..i just prefer the Boss..i think the H20 can sometimes sound too compressed.....

Also, i grew up with this pedal. I reckon i will never mod the thing altho install a modern blueish/redish LED would look really cool. Its just the vintage thingy...

I might sell the H20 if the loss is not too great. Vaiyen, PM me your (reasonable) budget and i see whether i will sell to u.

Grapple, the CE-2 can be modded to have more depth and rate, or less rate. You can get it to sound like you know, Mr Big's Just take my Heart kind of chorus? It might be too much for some though. Less rate mod will give it a kind of doubling effect, for old school rock/metal.

And the mods are reversible!

hmm...yeah i guess i know what you mean....

anyways. its your decision...i'm just pulling your leg dude, cos i just bought the H20 yesterday, and i wished i had waited cos i would have gotten it cheaper off you.HAHAAHAH

To each his own.

By the way Vaiyen..I took alot of time to research the pedal....comparing and stuff...and realised its the best for me.

you probably should too.. :D

Cheers

They should put a reverb control for the Echo in the H20. Its whats lacking in the budget echo pedals of today... DE7, Echohead, H20, Echopark... its irritating to have to lower the WHOLE level to avoid muddy-ing up your playing with strong echos!

What are the good chorus that u would recommend...that u have tried..bootek or otherwise...(gearpage - someone said retrosonic  )

me approaching dangerous GAS territory again....hahahah

*shrugs*
I've only tried a few. Not a chorus guy, till that CE-2 came into my life.

Personally, I like the CE-2 for its natural-ness and warmth, plus its not over the stop lush you know? Its kind of just nice, rich sounding stuff.

So in the end, you have to match your taste with it. Its hard to just recommend like so.

Also, chorus efx are (in a way) easier to decide on, since its mainly about the effect and how much, how little, how fast, how thick blah blah blah... unlike distortion/od where you must consider dynamics (to a greater extent), tone, bite, feel, interaction so on.

Gapple: Found this on HC about the CE-2:

JAPAN GREEN LABEL: Nice chorus, but very thin sounding and the oscillations aren't quite as smooth as its predecessors
JAPAN BLACK LABEL/Plastic screw: Better sounding indeed, smooth oscillations. Very lush, however transparent still. Most prevalent on 80s guitar though.
JAPAN BLACK LABEL/long dash/silver screw: Hands down beats them all! Very lush, smooth oscillations, so thick it's almost flange like! Can pretty much rival the tones of the CE-1 chorus ensemble.

Just curious, which one is yours? :)

gapple88: pm me your number alright? i gotta ask abt the condition.

and snuff, thanks for the input! glad to see you're happy with the bad monkey so far :D
