Hi folks,

recently discovered that the knife blade edge on my tremolo (lo-pro edge "copy".. lol) is kind of worn out (the blade seems like cheapo metal that's quite soft...)

went to the shops around peninsula, but seems like no one sells it??? Davis guitar shop told me to get the whole thing... ._.

any idea where can I get the blade?? or does no one sell it? cos i did a search on the internet but found nothing... why make it replaceable when i can't get the replacement anywhere...

Thank you in advance! :)

does that trem of yours stay in tune well? if it doesnt, I would suggest getting something better to replace it rather than going everywhere in search of that one piece.

this may sound stupid but you may try going to your school's technical workshop and cut one out yourself provided that you have the right materials for it.

I mean, since the blade can be removed to easily, why not just cut one out and replace it?

if you have no experience in the workshop, then ibanezrules is the way to go. the prices for those trems are really steep imo.

Do secondary School technical workshop have tools for cutting hardened steel? Coz the knife edges have to be as hard as possible....

cheaper way = cut normal steel and harden after cutting.

More $ = cut " Tool steel " ( which is steel that is already harden )
u probably need to grind the steel to shape
cannot 'cut' normally.

how do you grind something that is so small anyway? I would say cut normal steel and harden after cutting would be a reasonable way to solve the problem. maybe milling it to shape is another option. oh well, whatever seems the most practical.

from the way I see it, its hassel & time vs moolah. whichever you think is worth it :P .

my free thoughts : )

Cut a rectangle block of tool steel
sized to fit in the slot of the edge tremolo
whack it in so it stays in
then use dremel to shape the knife edge

btw, i never tried above b4......

Can I work at Starbucks for 4 hours, then order 2 knife edges from Rich @ Ibanezrules instead?

:P

Coz, that sounds like a AWFUL lot of work!

Knife Edge Set Edge / Lo Pro -> $30.00.

4 hours of Starbucks aint enough man  . the last I heard, they are paying $4/hr

haha well, we'll let the threadstarter decide for himself. the worst case scenario is that the original Lo-Pro knife edge cant fit into his trem.

imagine spending 42usd just to realise it doesnt fit. that would be like so damn sian...

so now, its grinding ( time ) VS buying the real deal ( money ) . either those options or just block the trem ( save time & money ). what would you do gorilla83 ?

lol... i won't wanna spend 42usd for 2 tinny winny pieces of metal...

i'll try the making my own CUSTOM blade if i can find metal of the right size... 8)

relinquish69, by hardening the metal u mean "tempering" ?
is it got to do with heating, quenching etc etc...
nice idea  .. hehe gonna try that too...

heh heh, you might want to ask your technician for some advice. I've never done something like this before to be honest.

however! it should be able to work.

WMF and KAI having sales at Takashimaya now

you can go pick up a nice knife for S$40
should be able to cut many replacements from one knife : )
