where to get older drum books? rudiments

hi-
only recently i got serious about learning drums especially rudiments, although i started drums few years back.
still a beginner and i like to know where can i get older drum books in singapore?
don't really want to order from amazon.com, they charge amazing shipping cost.
books i'm interested are e.g books by colin bailey, ted reed, george lawrence stone, peter erskine, gary chester etc etc.

i know a tiny bit about rudiments. i have some questions.
e.g RLRRLRLL , can i create variations of it to RLLRLLRL?
am i changing the rudiments? and am i doing some modular variations?

can i combine rudiments e.g RLRL with ruffs to form
(ruff)R (ruff) R(ruff)RLR (ruff)RLLR (ruff) RLR?
i'm sorry i don't know what i'm talking about.
THANK YOU drummers

There's a shop in Park Lane (I think) that sells alot of instruction books and dvds. You might want to check it out there. Bookstores like Borders and Kinokuniya also sell drum instruction books

You can always mix and match rudiments to come out with new ones. Actually, the example of parradidle that you mentioned, is valid. Check out Stick Control, and you will see that exercise there.

Actually the 26 rudiments that we know is basically made up of the 4 basic rudiments:

1) Single Stroke Roll
2) Double Stroke Roll
3) Flam
4) Buzz/pressed roll

A Parradidle (RLRR, LRLL) is made up of a Single Stroke Roll amd a Double Stroke Roll.

Happy drumming :D

COOL, thanks BebopIggy.
does that mean those crazily technical fusion drummers all make up their own personal rudiments and stickings? 8O what about those basic 1ena (RLRL) 1na (RRL), they are all from the basic RLRL single strokes?

to learn to play like those drum gods, u have to learn their own personal rudiments and stickings? 8O all of those exercises in george's stick control book can be used as new rudiments? :D now drums sounds like mathematics, counting, timing, making equations for rudiments.

Those "drum-gods" also started by learning the rudiments, and learning how to apply them.

We always know that a paradidle is played this way: RLRR LRLL. But we can also play it these way: LRRL RLLR, RRLR LLRL etc. You can put a flam on any of the note to make it sound different.

Use the Stick Control book to develop your hands and feet individually and also use it to develop both.

It does look like Math, but once you get it, learn how to feel and groove with the rudiments

Cheers :)

eh dude i saw a peter erskine drum book in plaza singapura the other day. u can go check it out.

about rudiments, they are basically stick patterns to help u execute move around your kit more easily. u don't have to follow the pros exact sticking pattern on the exact drum. the reason y they play that way is because it helps them to reach their cymbals or toms to their snare drum or watever other drum faster and efficiently IN TEMPO.

it's not necessary to work on your rudiments so fast till your fingers drop off. that is unless u wanna join World's Fastest Drummer competition. i think it's more important to practice your consistency first regardless of what ever rudiments you're doing. that way u can even compose grooves with your rudiments and apply it to drumset playing. :D

stumped on what fill to play? use a rudiment combination, then split it up amongst your limbs (R and L can be feet too!), and orchestrate it all over the kit...

sometimes this will result in some really wicked sounding fills when you've got it up to speed... or even better, grooves!

im starting to pick up rudiments lately, and i've heard that the stick control book is really good to start and practise with.

does anyone knows where to get stick control by george lawrence stone??
dont want to order online. delivery charges are way too expensive.
thanks!

Erm, I bought a really old drum book (the guy on the inner pages dresses like it's the 80s), which features some photos of old school hard rock and metal bands. It has a lot of rudiment practices and playing patterns, but trade off is that it's all in musical notation, so you might want to get a hang of all the tao-gay words before you read on.

i've no problems with the daogey
i just cant find anyone who knows where to get the books, other than expensive online sites. sigh.
would be a great help if anyone could help on this one. stick control book. hard to find.

Drum Book

U can try the National Library in Esplanade. There's lots of drum books for u to search for. From rudiments to history.

Peter's book is good for beginners too. Try completing all the 3 book series. After that, go for Dave's or any other intermediate books for drums.

hey, theres a website called http://www.vicfirth.com

and theres a part where they teaches(with videos) of all 40 rudiments.

http://www.vicfirth.com/education/rudiments.html

regarding how to change and orchestrate the rudiments around the drumkit, i strongly suggest u get good at those rudiments(single strokes, double strokes, paradiddle, flam and double paradiddle) first, learning to walk before you run always ensures u wun fall down on the way.

hey, happy drumming!!!
