Where can I go to string up my bass?

My bass guitar's D string just snapped, after 3 years (yes, that is 36 months).
And I am very very very sad.
I live in the North, so where is the nearest place I can go to string up my bass?

Also, does restringing affect the intonation?

erm after playing for so many years i am sure you know how to change the string right? you can just buy a new d string and then string it.

I'd rather get a brand new set. A single new string will sound so different from those old ones. It'll stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyway, I'm too lazy to cut the strings and stretch them.
And if new strings have an effect on the tension on the neck, I still have to do the truss rod and re-intonate the whole thing. Damn troublesome la... I'll rather just throw it to somebody do everything.

So... any ideas where I can go look for new strings for my wife?

if you live near yishun or sembawang ,you could go to lee kwong seng or rythm masalah(not so advisable).Last Resort,do it yourself.

Thanks for the recommendation, Parameswara.
Are the guys at Lee Kwong Seng good at setup? Never been there in my life!

Is there anywhere else to go?

ask our fellow softie malcolm.. nick is empty71.. very very good service!! but very very nice price!!

3 years is okay la. Some people never ever change strings.
The older the strings, the duller it sounds... and some people actually prefer that kind of sound.

I always find new strings have this zing which can be quite annoying. Increases your finger noise as well. But of course, new strings have much better sustain, are easier to tap and slap etc.

actually depends lah ... i've heard of a fella who never change strings for 20 years i think .. or 10 years on his electric bass . overseas though .. but he says that he uses it to play like reggae stuff or rnb when he needs that muted tone .. so i guess it's for a reason .. but by then your strings already grow algae already man ..

for me i change once every 6 months .. or 1 year lah.. depends .. i like the bright tone of the bass ..

I have actaually kept the strings on my bass for 20 yrs from 1984 to 2004 just to keep the neck tension on as I keep it in a hard case . The strings only rusted at mostly 1st to 5th fret and the neck pick up area, it sounds flat when I tried it on dec 2004 , actaually nice deep tone with my Mij stagg jazz bass :p

cheers
