where can i find the cheapest tube amp?

i believe it's the ibanez valbee. it's got good ratings and it's one of the cheapest available.

it's available at swee lee at a price of $300.

If wattage is really no issue, the 5W ones are fairly cheap.

Try this too, it's a more traditional desigh with a 12AX7 and EL84:

The valbee doesn't look like it's FULL tube i think, but it's another consideration.

Or maybe the dodgy

Valbee isn't full tube at all, i believe ark's recommendation is the cheapest you can find right now

The Epi Valve Jr - ask Sweelee about it. Or search the threads here; that should get you info.

The Valbee has a preamp and poweramp section, but uses clipping iirc for the distortion section.

we are only confusing others by saying the ValBee isn't a full tube amp- people would think that either the power/ pre-amp section isn't tube equipped...

goin for "the cheapest" tube amp is a wrong concept buddy.

I will say this again "there are good ss amps and there are bad tube amps" ....so use your ears !!

+1 gsonique...

however, if we advise people to get a good amp per se, regardless if it's tube/ ss, chances are, they won't listen... not referring to anyone in particular.

yup true to the bone sub....

actually one good question that most don't ask is "which amp is pedal friendly and which is not"...

sub bro, not wanting to sound like a purist or anal rententive but when full tube is mentioned...at least from what i consider a full tube amp will be how the signal is being processed and churned out fully by tubes only.

diodes clipping after 1 12ax7 to me isn't anywhere tube distortion at all, that's something where only multiple preamp tubes in that section can achieve when i hear the word full tube.

Your last point is very much needed in this forum and i certainly agree with that looking at the recent spade of threads

in that case, we should tell others that despite being tube equipped, the ValBee isn't 100% tube processed...

not trying to be picky here but the ValBee by virtue of its nature, is a tube amp. not trying to defend the ValBee either, it's not my numero uno amp... 8)

IMO there are a lot of ss amps that are better choices than the 5W tube amps out there. But he did not ask for any advice on amps, just what low priced full tube amps there are, so I gave a simple answer too.

I guess there are differences in what we consider full tube.

FULL FULL FULL: tube rectifier, tube preamp, tube poweramp, no transistors or ICs anywhere. (no way you getting a cheap new one. Gibson Falcon was on classifieds a while back. Might still be for sale.)

FULL FULL: ss rectifier, tube preamp, tube poweramp (ephiphone 5W here, AFAIK, haven't actually seen the schematics myself)

FULL: ss rectifier, tube preamp, tube poweramp, transistor or diode clipping and/or boosts (valbee here, also AFAIK, i very much doubt the boost is also using the tubes)

FOOL: ss rectifier, tube preamp, ss poweramp (so many here)

hmm.. another FULL FULL would be the Fender Pro / Blues Jr

As for triple full.. you're got the amp kits that you can find on marshamps or weber or frenzel like the fender tweed deluxe, champ, bassman.. blah blah

lol@coining new phrases.

But I guess usuall when people mention tube amps, the requirements is just that it's a tube pre and poweramp.

For myself, when I hear full tube, I assume there are no transistors or ICs in there, just like how they built them in the old days before transistors were invented. But others may define differently. Is a tricky language dis engrish.

hurhru gooses music man sure sound good. SS preamp, Toob power amp.

thats the way they should have made hybrids.
