When are you considered an intermediate bassist?
I bet everyone started off as a beginner rights, but how did you know you are in the "intermediate" range?
Also, when do you know its the right time to purchase a new bass or amp?

Just asking thanks :)

haha, lemme guess, you're trying to reach that 'intermediate level' so that you could have an excuse to purchase new bass and amp?
There's no real 'intermediate level' imo, just practice consistently, learn new techniques, theory, ear training and saving money at the same time (to upgrade your gear), it takes time to develop those skills, you have to be patient and discipline when you're doing your practice routine...

when you have too much money.

seriously, skill level has nothing to do with how high-end your gear is. in the end, it's all about who's the richest to afford all the gear he wants.

hahahhaa... i really laughed... :D

the question is... why would you even bother rating yourself? who among us has the authority to rate someone else?

i never heard such standards are there... your fingers may be faster than lightning or slap even with your eyes closed but one may still find it difficult to label you as "intermediate." i hope you got what i mean.

i do believe in what reyrey said:

according to my church's category (just as a guideline):

Beginner:
- Able to play simple chords
- Basic theory covering note reading, major & minor keys and timing

Intermediate:
- Ability to improvise and play in different styles
- Running notes, improvisation, more advanced techniques – slapping etc.

Advanced:
- Skilled bassist
- Advanced improvisation, speed, control, technique & genres

These are used to determine what additional trainings are required.

23 years to become a beginner? i've been playing for around 6 years and i still dont know how to play

seriously, although i've been bassing for 10+ years, i'll rate myself as beginner. so many things i've yet to explore, and i cant even slap/pop!

This, I agree with. All you gotta do is have a high-end Warwick or something and there you go, you're a pro player.
