What's the first thing you do when you buy a new guitar?

Cut the strings, clean up the guitar's exterior and then change the strings. Cause sometimes if it has been displayed for too long, the strings will rust and etc and tons of dust or stuff like that.

What about you guys? Do you immediately change pups or change grovers and stuff like that when you first bought your guitar or do you not do anything at all?

erm, play on it?
i wouldn't buy a guitar that's in a bad condition or has specs that i'm not satisfied with
at the most, i'll get it set up properly, and maybe restring it

i will just smile and go "omg omg omg omg new guitar at last omg YESSAAAAA!!!!!"

Then bring home and play for awhile. then clean, restring, tune and play again.

I havent bot a new axe for ages ... the last time I bought new must have been 8-9 years ago ... I normally would change strings, clean it etc ... and place some kinda form of identification as proof of ownership

When I buy a 2nd hand axe - I strip everything down - normally replace the tuners (if need to), pups & electronics (- a must for me) .. and any rusrt screws or parts etc ...

Thena complete road test in the studios before I bring her out on stage ..

why would u wan to restring when the strings are already new? lol

Probably the same reason as me. Cause sometimes the strings are worn out when they're on display for a little too long. So that's why we change them even though they look new.

I didn't put any 'tattoo' on my guitar though. I wanted to engrave something on it but I am not sure where to and don't wanna do it myself in case I screw up and leave a scar instead of a tattoo..

Bring it home, take it out of its casing, run my hands over its curves and neck, pick it up, hug it and tell it gently that it'll be my one and only, tune it up, intonate it, set it up, fiddle the knobs, play some songs, reiterate that its going to bring me lasting pleasure and immense memories, wipe it down, put it back into its case.... tell it that its the best thing that ever happened in my life.

Then decide what other fields I have to conquer next. LOL!

All jokes aside, i'll give it a setup to my liking, restring if needed then play the heck out of it through my rig.

Usually after I buy a guitar, I'd replace the strings if they're old. I wouldn't make any modifications, e.g. string gauge, pickups, etc immediately because I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't like the way it sounded and played when I was trying it out.

Just that I took the risk with my latest guitar. An Ibanez Sage acoustic. The strings were old and the guitar didn't sound excellent at the moment, but it played very well and I loved playing it. When I replaced the strings, it sounded really great and a lot better than before. But I wouldn't make such an impulse purchase again because I might not get the same good result in the future.

jam on it.... checking the finishing,
but if i had strat ... i love it looks vintage... many scratch , the paint worn out etc etc :D but the string should be new...
if i found somethin strange on the sound ... i'll rewiring it... change the pots and caps if needed... i'll not change the P-ups if i didn't need to :)

plug to my amp and strum a G chord :)

then followed by setting up the action, neck, and change the strings if necessary

would stare at it, fondle it, stare at it, then play it! haha. oh, but i wouldn't put it thru anything too strenous on its first day. maybe next year. haha.

just thought of sharing a tip when buying a new guitar. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT i repeat again DO NOT i repeat once more DO NOT buy a guitar on display. Chances of it having electronics problem is very high thats why they are put on display
