What style do you play?

Hi guys,
I'm curious to find out what is the singapore music scene like. So do you mind listing down your influences, your styles that you play, how long have you play, your age and your level for your age.

Mine would be
1)My influences- Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gn'R, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Blind Melon, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wes Montgomery, Aerosmith, Muddy Waters, SRV, BB king and ZZ Tops

2) Styles that i play- Southern Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, Country and Jazz

3) How long have i play- This is my fourth year of playing guitar.

4) My age- 17

5)My level- 7.5. Although i don't shred much, but i can whipped out pretty cool solos. And i can hit my pinch harmonics pretty well. And i know few theory like triads, scales, modes, chords progression and chords construction. So it is pretty good for kid like me to play this well. And i love blues! Blues forever man!

i'm an idea manifestor- i play what's going on in my head, be it the High-5 theme song, fast & furious black metal concoctions, etc. most of the time, you can hear me play & hum the tune simultaneously- Hendrix taught me that :lol:

self-taught, figure things out by ear all the time & thrives on original compositions rather than copied materials.

*Terry Bozio/ Billy Sheehan- 9 Short Films

currently working on:
*the Pocky pretzel theme tune & mutating it into a shred lick, in fact, i'm done! 8) wanna hear?
*the reason for not buying a Fender Strat anytime soon... still working on this one... :roll:

I like: BLUESY ROCK, eg. Mr. Big, melodic rock, X-japan.. JAZZ n classical!!

Fav Band: Dream T

Influences: Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Deep Purp, Black Sabb

played since 1995 but I can't go beyond 16ths at 140+bpm, for me, it's not the speed, but the clarity...pronounciation and tone....(maybe its sourgrapes coz I can't shred) it's like singing... playing fast is good to impress people....some day, I would like to play fast and clearly with emotions....(beyond me now...haha)

Takes immense pleasure playing weird hard to reach chords when I can't beat shredders. However when shredders can also reach those chords, I'm contented to play 2nd fiddle! lol

currently writes alot of rubbish on MIDI format....hope to incorporate some oriental/chinese music into some hard rock guitar stuff....

Meanwhile, keeps dreaming and posts threads on soft.com...haha

2) Styles that i play- Slow/Hard Rock, Blues, a bit of others

3) How long have i played- One & half.

5)My level- 5.5? Working on my theory, and soloing. Writing some stuff now.

Practice lots. If you got no school and you can afford to practice 6hrs a day with mentrnome, you can shred like vai and even malmsteen. But do not always stick to speed metal. Try to play other style too, this will make you a more verstatile guitarist.

agreed. Play classical music! good way to build everything. Shoud listen to some flamenco and latin classical! Imagine shredding on classicals...accoustic style with silly sounding scales and inhuman chords and voicings, infinite modes....

plus since it's popular to rate ourselves....I'll rate myself a 1.5 due to my extensive chord knowledge! lol...a san francisco street busker would be rated a 20 because he plays jazz like its in his blood and jeff beck would be rated 2000 in my mind (tongue in cheek)

Man, M-Law n Atee, U guys are young and apparantly very good!! YOu all take lessons? lol...it took me like 1 year to learn Sweet Child o mine and green tinted sixties mind....lol!!!! **lacks talent**

Me i play blues, some classic rock, and trying to learn jazz improvisation by myself at the moment. And that's beyond me. :?

My age? Hint - Clapton was already writing 'Sunshine of your Love' at my age. Wish I could write even one song.

wow i dont see much of modern rock influences in here.

influences - soundgarden ,sonic youth,american hi-fi , foo fighters, our lady peace, incubus, the darkness, jet, phantom planet and the usual old school stuff

styles i play - grunge, alternative

The following are recorded during my exams....I call them "stress jam" for obvious reasons....

I listen to it, and have no idea what style it is...its called stress..

Recording over a MIDI backing track which I wrote using a prog.

It's not very clean, and my timing is poor, can't seem to hit some notes right...dun laugh too loud k? :roll:

jazz, funky, arabian, latin, rock, fusion....
i try to blend in everything(if i can) if i'm writing originals.

3=been playing for like 14yrs(on n off)

4=23yrs of age

5=i dunno my level... maybe 8? i suck sometimes coz i done practice much like i do when i was a teenager. i drop at my speed...

tips.... like watguitar_phreak n marshall law said..... practice makes perfect. if can afford 6hrsor more a day... 3hrs would be find with metronome n different styles. gd luck everyone!!!!!

um.... marty friedman, vai, jason becker, kirk hammett, srv, paul gilberto..

2) genre/style of music:
i used to play lots of speed metal and technical stuff.. (well at least i tried to hehehhe) but now more into laid back bluesy stuff and more melodic emotional music..

3) years ive been playing:
hm.. almost 3

4) age:

5) level:
hmmm level huh? i dunno... i guess i can shred (but i cheat heheh my picking sucks.. im mostly legato) i like to play with emotion but need to work on technique hahaah

My style o playing, humm funky-heavy-bluesy stuff hahaha,.. sumthing like soul blues with beet of crunch n speed, hahahaha
Humm yeah i try to at least practice like 2-3 hours 3 days in a week or sumthing liddat, i alternate between playing lead, rhythm n bass,.. i got guitar n n bass so try n learn all, for bass my fave woule be billy sheehan hahaha
Played for roughly 4 years roughly sumthing liddat age 22,..i rate my playing at 6 mabbe hahaha i dun rate my self,.. guitar is to be enjoyed coz if strezz playing guitar then i dun see the point,.. if i want strezz i do my tutorials,...

BB king ( more feel in one note , then some have in songs. )
james hetfield ( Sing and down pick.... master of puppets?? HOW!!???!?!? )
Hendrix ( everything he touched back then....is worth tens of thousands now )


my current playing style i would say is a mixture of santana and slash... primarily a pentatonic abuser.. though i often go int Aeolian and harmonic minor for some emotion.. My malmsteen days are not over..as i still do feel he is the KING AND THE MOST HARDCORE EVER!!!. just got a strat so finally can make manhatten sound decent..
OMG..... i love guitar. i need lessons..anyone knows a great teacher who can like jab a big prong into my spine and DOWNLOAD joe pass's skills into my brain?...
