What side of the drummer should the Bass set up??

We are a 3-piece, guitar, drums & bass. Guitarist is on the left, of the drummer (facing audience), and I set up on the right of the drummer. The drummer has his set up with the bass drum angled towards me-(he just likes to play that way) , and the high hat to the left side. It works fine, but my guitarist insist, and constantly wines, that it is completely wrong, and that EVERY normal band has the bass to the left of the drummer. I just keep telling him we are not a normal band.. Is there some rule I am not aware of??

hahaha, there is no rule bro.. maybe your guitarist has ocd or sth

seriously u can stand wherever u like.. to the left/right of the drummer, behind the drummer also can la.

the first few bands that came to my mind are the who, nirvana and rhcp, their bassist stands on the right of the drummer. if u play well people dont care where and how u stand/sit

Lol! I find this interesting.
I've been performing on stage for quite sometime and I don't remember where I stand.
I think there is no rules where you wanna setup as long you can hear what each other is playing clearly.

Just to share a funny experience when I was playing keyboard for my band in a damn small cafe, my position was behind the crowd. Alone! LOL!
