Helloz…
I’ve given up on all distortion pedals simply because they interfere with the original guitar signals too much. If you pay a premium for your guitar & had the pickups swapped for you dream Dimarzio/ Duncan/ whatever, the best way to get an impressive overdrive tone is to plug straight to the amp. I can’t overemphasize the importance of investing in an amp with a very good onboard overdrive. This is purely personal because whatever’s ear candy to you may be aural bile for the rest. So do well to shop around for one that you favour, regardless of the brand name.
However, if your limit yourself to a 15W amp strictly for bedroom practise, then do well to check out other pedals than the conventional Metal Zone. No offence to all MT users, I am an owner of this black box too, it’s just that I revere this pedal too much BEFORE I heard good amps. Then I realized that overdrive pedals get in the way of good tones, period. If you have to get a pedal, then consider the following:
· Ibanez- Smash Box (from the Tonelok series)
· Danelectro- Black Coffee (one of the fiercest mini pedals around)
· Marshall- Jackhammer (the sound of an angry JCM beneath your feet)
· Zoom- Tri-metal (the most impressive analogue unit from Zoom)
· Danelectro- Black Paisley (the ultimate metal deception- forgive the design, embrace the tone- I don’t think it’s available in S’pore… yet)
· DOD- Death Metal (wretched menace with unfortunate bass limitations)

Finally- good luck, hope you won’t end up buying a pedal… juz kidding…
