i came from a videography background.. and it seems that the mics I've seen that are used for vocals are pretty different from that used for videography.

i'm currently using Zoom H1n. have seen others use stuff like SE mics with shock mounts. what difference does it make in recording our vocals?

Videography audio for dialog vocals is mainly for "more SUBJECT , less BACKGROUND/NOISE" especially for some harsh locations where theres many human traffic (or car horning traffic/bikes etc).

it's all about the frequencies it picks up , Zoom H1n is like electret/pencil condenser-like mics. whereas if I use something like Audio Technica AT2020 which has a larger diaphragm/capsule whatever you call it will pick up more "detail" for vocals. and if I use my main vocal tube mic Rode NTK which is clear/warm sounding. shock mounts is mainly noises coming from vocalists who can't just keep their feet planted firmly on the ground like michael jackson who usually dances while recording vocals. so you'll often see microphones being hung upside down from the ceiling.

-from audio/video background.
