What is Windows® RTAS®/VST???

Hi softies,

im kinda looking at the Line6 POD Studio GX for guitar recording.

Im really confused with
Mac® AU/RTAS®/VST® and Windows® RTAS®/VST®..

What exactly is this? some king of plugin for the computer?

I have also checked the system requirements before i buy Studio GX.

do i need that Windows RTAS/VST?

RTAS, AU and VST are all formats of plug-ins available for various types of software. For example:

RTAS is PRO TOOLS and PRO TOOLS LE specific (Mac or Windows)
AU is a format normally found for plug-ins used in LOGIC (Mac)
VST is a format of plug-ins usually used on Nuendo, Cubase, etc. (Windows or Mac)

So basically if I buy the Line6 toneport GX audio interface will it provide this RTAS, VST?

Will i be able to just plug & play the audio interface or do i have to find or download this plug-ins myself?

Please pardon my innocence regarding this things, im not really a technical guy.. hehe..
