What is the best choice give the budget

Hi,
i might be off topic but i think this is an important consideration.

u might want to give a brief descrip about the environment u will be placing the kit in.

From ur previous posts, my guess is its gonna be in a room in your house?

How big is it, how many storeys, etc. Will neighbours make noise? Acoustics of your room important too. How can the 3k kit sound good if for example u have to put it in a corner next to concrete walls?

One SOFTie Reuben here has experiences with neighbours complaining even though he has spend quite a bit soundproofing his room.

I have built a platform in my room, and am on my way to treating the walls with acoustic foam. Hopefully the sound improves then. Why not give some thought about your environment before u splurge most of your budget on the drums itself. My S.S. sounds great to me as far as i am concerned, and the sound has improved a great deal ever since i have moved them from my living room(no air con, no sound treatment, no stage) to my renovated bedroom.

If i had 3k and all the information i have right now, i would go for a decent enough TAMA or MAPEX-mid range(1.8k), apply all the sound treatment techniques when creating my practice environment(up to 1k-depends), get them TURKEY CYMBALS($800 can get a excellent 3-4 piece setup), and go find a good teacher.
(Tama for hardware, Mapex for quality, Turkish for value, Teacher to get things right early.)

Lastly, a 3k kit doesnt promise to sound good if u cant tune it nicely.

just my $0.02.

All bros welcome to educate me in any areas u think i dont make sense =D

gambatak... you took most of wad i wanna say liao...

anyway.. another consideration is wad you using the set for. if its for practice den why spend so much on a high end set when you cant bring it around for gigs and stuff

i know lah.. sometimes you just wanna enjoy good sound.. trust in tuning.. it does wonders.. for any enquiries pls contact fuman aka drumhobbyst

anyway wad i regretted
yamaha rydeen - 1.2k
zildjian zbt - 200? cant rmb
mutes - 100

i dunno lah.. tallied up to 1.8k...

when i analyse my buy..
I only need this set for practice.. i could have settled for a pearl RT and get good cymbal pedals and snare.. which most likely would end up pretty much similar to the total i spent...

shucks... sad

Seem like we all agree that Nigel has best customer service.....I think so too....but how about the sound part, does Mapex sound better than others at the same price range

marc
I know "they", been to the shop and see the condition of their display...does not looks like worth the price tag....

Hi gambatak,
thats is a very good peace of advice, in fact in has been the reason why I still not buying....and yes i am going to set it up in my guess room (3.5X3Meter with 3 sliding windows and 1 door) no sound treatment yet...
still scratching my head on how to DIY sound treatment on it , advise on material to use, where to get them, what supplier and contractor for the job , what the estimate cost are what I need badly now...anyone have advice on this?

reuben,
you are right, its for practice, but I am an audiophile who cant stand cheapy sound....got demotivated, RT is one on the option should I switch gear and go for temp solution to start with....

BTW,
I am thinking of getting a cheap snare drum to test out the room, if that sound OK for the neighbours, can I assume a full drum set will likely fine too ?

advice....adivice...please....as I said....I am new...

thanks all Bros for all advices so far

with regards to the sound equip and all, i know eunos factory area got suppliers of rock wool, etc. u should read up on the sound forum?

also, when it comes to testing out if the neighbours will hear? i think bass notes are the frequencies that actually pass through the walls easily.

if u dont like cheapo sound, getting an entry mapex will suffice.

yeap... actually the bass is the most irritating to neighbours... the can actually feel the vibration though the floor and walls..

try investing in better cymbals... i am quite turned off by my zbts everytime i play... drum set still can tune.,. cymbal once modify liao cannot turn back...

mapex is the new in thing hor.. haha

The best is to go down to one of our homes (depends on Reuben and Gammy. mine is definitely opened for visit :)) and see how it is being done... no point getting a Posche where one can only travel 90km/hr max on the road...

Haha... better to show BSLTN how it is done if he comes over to my place... just played on my kit at 2am this morning... 8)

eh.. joshua, how much u spent on sound treatment ur room???

issit the wooden platform that alvin uses at the school??

and foams??

how much?? i must consider sound proofing since my drum's at the living room/dining area there so it's very noisy and i only get to play it when no one's watching tv...

Firstly, i never intended to fully soundproof. I am only going to TREAT the room to reduce the annoying sound waves bouncing back to me when i practice. (also so my cymbals and drum sound good =D)

Im not much of a hard hitter, and my neighbour has been very tolerant. Thankfully i am staying in a corner unit.

I have built a stage unlike that of alvin's. Mine is just wood with a little support and there is like an air space kept between that and the actual floor. Will be putting a carpet soon.

My ceiling extends downwards like another platform(false ceiling) to store the lights, this wasnt a planned thing, it just fell into place. It helps that there is an air space buffer between the drums to the "upstairs" neighbour.

I will also be getting the acousitc foam from ranking soon to place around the corner that my drum is set up in. This can be bought for $50 a fairly huge piece. Dont ask me about the dimensions i didnt go and measure.

I am unable to fully soundproof the room bcos of design and costs so what i have done so far and am going to complete is merely treating the room acoustics.

Hope this helps.

wah, one day must go ur house lah ah see see...

anyways, got other methods to DIY the soundproofing glasses that nigel brings?

hi drum_hobbyist,

thats a very generous offer to visit your place....text me your location and preferred time and days if I can come to visit one of these day...

Nigel Panel cost about 3-4K, more then the drum...can we have DYI less that or at least not like cutting the room into half, I must say that may be the option after i have checkout how far can DYI do

Thanks
BSLTN

Wow...shall we set time and date ?
but not woking hours please (8AM-7PM weekday is out for me, 7PM and above is fine, alternatively weekend is much more flexible except sunday morning)

heh cage. never thought of it that way. but sometimes neccessary. especially when you dont want your noise to bleed into other instruments mics in small scale gigs. the rest of my music team loved the shield. they could give their ears a rest for once

I'm probably not qualified enough to advise, but here's my 2 cents. I got an RT, the stock cymbals and batters sound crap, but once you've got some better Remo heads, stuffed a pillow into your bass drum and got some better cymbals, I find it sounds pretty good. At the moment, I'm slowly upgrading my kit, buying better cymbals and hopefully a snare soon. Haven't done any soundproofing in my room though. Which is why I'm interested to go to drum_hobbyist house as well! :p
